Based on a quick search, it appears my (new to me) Willis is missing the turnlock backplate. Are the turnlocks from Buckleguy a decent replacement? I’ve read Coach would send out parts in the past but do they still do that?

The buckle guy turn locks are a great replacement. I’ve ordered from them many times & have always been impressed with the quality. Just remember to keep your original oval washer because the one that comes with their turn lock set has those fake looking dents. Their willis replacement d-rings are also fantastic quality.

Hello! Sharing the rehab of this vintage coach bag. I was horrified with the condition of the bag when I got it because it was way worse in actual than the pictures the seller sent me. My pictures doesn’t even show how mangled and deep the scratches are. Didn’t expect it to come back like this! This is really a testament of the resiliency of coach leather.

You did a fabulous job!!!

It looks like the backplate is attached to the turnlock on the top of the bag. It appears to be upside down as well as in the wrong place. Just remove both, polish and attach it properly after rehabbing the bag.

Actually, now that I look at your first picture, you’re not missing the back plate, its right there under the twisty part!

eta: @LadaZuri beat me to it!

The rationale behind that escapes me but thank you both for pointing that out and saving me some effort/money!

Hi everyone! I've read from some of you that when you dunk bags, the dye the bag gives off sometimes helps recolor any worn parts. I was wondering how long you guys have left your bags for that dye redistribution to happen. I wouldn't want to leave it too long and come back to a totally faded bag :whut: (if that even happens? I'm not sure lol)

That won’t happen. I’ve forgotten bags in the water for more than an hour & they still turned out fine so don’t worry too much. I would say 30 to 40 minutes is plenty of time for the “redistribution”. Your bag needs to bleed in order for it to work well though. Also, I use hot water so ymmv depending on what water temperature you do it in. I use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the piping as well to help the fading a bit. Hope this helps

I LOVE Blackrock! These pieces were looking a little sad before and now they're glistening!:girlsigh:

After reading on here about putting muscle into it, I went ham and I love how my developed buffing skill (I'm sooo weak) makes it shine like it's been freshly applied! I will have to use Renapur on some new rehabs to see if I can buff out a shine to them too as Chambers brings out a similar shine to BR. My gymnast sister likes to go on about how completely untoned my arms are:hrmm: so let's see how they'll look after all these rehabs:cool::nuts:

I did a search on the forums for "hardware replacement" but didn't find an answer to this one. Does Coach sell you an individual piece of hardware? Do you need to send off for repair for a missing button cover? Or where else can it be obtained? Here's what's missing from my "new" second hand bag. The button cover embellishment. PS: This bag makes me dance with joy. It's serial number: L0969-13838

That's a fabulous bag! My only suggestion is to go to a Coach boutique- not outlet store- and ask if it can be repaired. Or possibly email customer service from the website.

I seriously doubt they will have these buttons at this late date. I don't have any suggestions other than to buy a beat up similar style and steal the buttons. My daughter has the backpack version of this bag!

I did a search on ebay for "Coach Replacement Button" and several poppy-style buttons popped up for sale, see the link below for an example. Just make sure that it's the correct size and color for your bag.

So much knowledge sharing and expertise in this thread, I’d love to know if anyone has any insights on refined calf leather and if it would hold up/have potential for rehabbing like glovetanned leather does? I can see it’s shiner, which likely indicates a coating of some sort so I’m not sure. Fell in love with a Madison bag with beautiful burnished edges, but the only Coach bags I have are glovetanned…

I have dunked and rehabbed Coach bags made of a variety of materials including lamb nappa and calf leather and they usually held up fine and rehabbed well.

Below is the creed patch for a West End Medium Hobo 9467 that I once rehabbed. It was made of calf leather and trimmed with cowhide. I gave it a bath and you can see the before and after pictures at the links below.

The catalog page in the "After" pictures is of the same bag but in Nubuc (which is hard to rehab!) but I don't think calf leather will be a problem. However, I didn't spend much on this bag so it was easy for me to take a chance. Good luck!
