Thank you for the reply! The liner is a hot pink, so I am afraid of color transfer. I wonder if I can just dunk the top trim part, since that is the only part I have an issue with? Do you think the leather would dry a different color since I would only be getting that part wet?

I thought about suggesting a partial dunk but there's a good chance you'd end up with a water mark. It would be worth a try with the understanding you might end up having to dunk the bag to get out the mark if it leaves one.

If you want to approach it gradually you could start with a warm cloth and soak the area, that way you have more control of where the water goes. Let it dry gradually, if it works and leaves no marks then Yay you're done. If it doesn't work and doesn't leave a mark you can still try spot soaking the area...and if that doesn't work pull the lining out and dunk. Let the bag get past the soaking drippy stage and then reshape.

I think you have to weigh any of our suggestions with the risk the bag might come out worse, and then decide how much the original problem bothers you. It just seems like ot hardly ever actually does end up worse, just maybe not "better enough" to satisfy us.

I'm not sure if anyone here has seen color transfer to/from a lining though. They seem to do ok. But again, you have to weigh the risk that it won't.

Dunking only part of a bag is usually not a good idea because you can end up with a line when it dries. It is almost impossible to get the water only on the band without it leeching into the other part.

I haven't had good luck with ironing either. You might be able to use leather cleaner because it wouldn't leave a water ring. Get the curved part soaked with the cleaner, such as Lexol. Then press the top into the shape you want it to dry. I have gotten straps to dry straight by placing a pile of books on top. You could use a hairdryer to speed the drying.

Here are a couple of easy rehabs that I've just finished. The first is a Navy Sonoma Zip Wallet. I picked it up at a garage sale for $3.

The first 3 pics are before and the last 2 are after rehab. The bill compartments have the blue striped lining of the Sonoma line, but I didn't get a good pic of that.

I got this dark brown whipstitch bag at Savers for $12.75. Hyacinth indentified it as a West End Medium Hobo 9467. It was made in Turkey in 2000. It's made of calf and trimmed with cowhide and it is very soft. It was in pretty good condition, but dirty, scuffed, and misshapen. Here are the before pics.

Here are the after pics of the West End Medium Hobo 9467 and also a catalog entry that Hyacinth found for the same bag in nubuc. It cost $288 in 2000.

Thanks for the help. I think I will give it some thought before I do anything like that. I guess I am chicken when it comes to dunking bags! The ladies here do such a fabulous job on their bags!

I don't blame you, once you start messing around with water on your leather, you're potentially in dunking land.

Another thing you could try is steaming it, that shouldn't leave a water mark if done correctly and might help dampen the fibers enough to reshape the bag. Not sure exactly how I'd do it, just something else to think about.

Love the blue on the wallet, and that whipstich bag is soo cute & different!

(lol). I couldn't get the big picture to show on the detail screen, and when I tried to get back to the thumbnail it was gone, but oh well.

It's actually kind of a cool bag, lightweight and comfortable to carry. She looks great after her bath. Unfortunately, however, she reeks of perfume She's pretty much been outside since she got out of the washer, and there is definite improvement. I've intentionally left her in the sun, when it's available, and the time when she's been in the sun seems to have resulted in the most improvement.

So I googled removing perfume odors and I seem to be getting vinegar as a result most often. I may end up dumping a gallon of vinegar over her in the kitchen sink and letting her soak a bit if she doesn't improve by the next time I go to the grocery store (since I don't have that much vinegar on hand).

I almost took after pix but the suede was going to need some brushing and I figure if she's going to get redunked, I'll just wait till then. She spent a long time in the washing machine the first time around, I did a stain cycle, with a prewash and an extra rinse.

I will post after pix though because the difference is pretty striking and I think she's a good illustration of what can be done with suede.
