Not exactly a full rehab/rescue, but have any of you tried reconditioning new old stock/dead stock that arrives dried out? The leather feels stiff from years of storage and lack of use, and I think the bag could benefit from some conditioning. I have Coach Leather Conditioner that many of you advise against (silicones).

I'm starting to get an appreciation for leather as a living/breathing product (at one time). It needs those oils to stay supple.

I would probably use Leather CPR. I got some at Marshalls for a great price. You could always try Blackrocks later but it is tricky to use.

I would use either Leather CPR or Leather Therapy to get the leather feeling moist again.

... She still feels really stiff and dry now. So I am working on Leather Therapy oil along with Leather CPR. I'll eventually get to the Blackrocks when I am happy she's softened enough. Ok, so at least she's less over all "dingy" and will get better with a bit more light painting...

Your white bag is gorgeous, I love bleecker bags!

Yes they do! But leather is a very versatile and resistant material that can take a lot of abuse and bounce back!

I am currently rehabbing 2 Patricia Legacy bags and the British Tan bag is incredibly dry. I have tried all my favorite moisturizers and it stayed dry and almost brittle. The bag has areas of "orange peel" texture and I am more than ever convinced that it is the early stages of dry rot, before the leather starts to wrinkle and crack.

I finally remembered that I had purchased (but never used) a bottle of 100% pure, refined, triple-filtered Emu Oil. Coffee&Coach recommended it for a natural leather bag that I haven't gotten around to rehabbing yet. I figured that since it is an animal oil maybe it would help replace some of the oils lost from the dry leather.

The emu oil is nice to work with. It doesn't have any odor and it is thin and easy to apply and the bag is responding to it! It is starting to feel softer and more supple! I think that it is going to need a couple more applications but I am hopeful that I will be able to recover this bag.

I've noticed that the surface of the leather looks a little dull after the oil has been absorbed, but it buffs up easily to a nice shine.

This isn't strictly a bag rehab, but my lovely husband made me a display rack for some of my collection, and I thought I would share it with you. I hope you don't mind me going off topic a little. (And, yes, I also have a thing for shoes and scarves)

I"m loving everything here!! . I actually carried my Cashin Slim tote to work today and just to reminded of how much I love that bag! I Love the colors of yours. And I too have a stash of vintage scarfs and more shoes than any person ever needed! I have to ask, do you use your scarves for bag decoration mostly, or do you actually wear them? I want so badly to stick a scarf on myself- and not just my bags, and then I look at myself and feel like I am one poodle skirt short of a sock hop!!

My husband is not quite so supportive -though he grudgingly appreciates my good deals when they aren't taking over the house.

What a sweetheart your husband is, the display rack is fab! I love your bags, I am too busy with yardwork ( I have 7 acres and am on my own ) this time of year to do any rehabs, they will have to wait til fall. I think I recruited a new member, I follow the Secondhand Bargains thread, and a girl mentioned rehabbing Coaches, I told her to come on over!:smile1:

Hello, everyone! My pictures are way, way overdue, but I've been working long hours lately and haven't had the time to photograph my finished rehabs. I used flash in the following photos, because it helped me capture the true-to-life colors (but normally, I dislike using flash; I almost always opt for natural light). However, the photos will give you a great idea of what my bags look like now.

I don't know the name of my teal/lagoon colored Coach bag, but the before pictures are somewhere in this thread. The main problems I found were a mysterious "water" stain on the back (that I, unfortunately, couldn't completely eliminate), and various (small) coffee colored stains on the inside flap and the bottom. All of the coffee colored stains were fully removed during the bath, and despite the mark on the back, I am so, so satisfied with the results. Being my first rehab, I think I did well! The photos shown are after two applications of Leather CPR and one application of Blackrock.

The second (and most recent) rehab project was a Coach Manor bag, and I am completely in love with it! I didn't take any before pictures, because I was too excited to submerge it in water when I received it, but I purchased it off eBay for $32, and it was in lovely condition, save for a few knicks in the leather on a small area of the front of the bag. Aside from the knicks in the leather, the inside was a little dusty, so I cleaned the interior and the pockets of debris before dunking it. The bath did it a lot of justice, but the thick leather took a long time (longer than expected) to dry. I reshaped it with towels, and finally, I applied one application of Leather CPR and one application of Blackrock. I wore this bag out the other night with a sheer shirt, boyfriend jeans, and ankle boots, and it was the perfect accessory! The structured look is my absolute favorite, and I'm thrilled with the results. Definitely my go-to black bag!

Excuse the largeness of the photos!

The Coach Manor bag looks brand new! I love the green bag, I think the green Coach leather is my favorite!

Thank you! I really couldn't believe how wonderful the Coach Manor bag looked after a simple cleaning and conditioning, especially because it looked so nice to begin with! My friends actually asked if it was brand new, and they didn't believe me when I said it was a vintage purse, all cleaned up! And I think the green is beautiful; I have a shirt that matches the color exactly, so it's perfect!

Hey Jessi, bag decoration isn't such a big thing over here. All my scarves are for my neck in cold weather! My husband has been very good about my large bag collection. I was a bit worried when he asked "how many bags do you actually have... give me a number", but then he told me he had a few ideas for a large wooden tree type thing to display even more of them. He is very clever and makes beautiful furniture. I did laugh though - I had my 9170 hanging up instead of my GiGi, and when Steve came in and saw the GiGi, he asked me if it was my Indiana Jones bag.

Wow, 7 acres sounds awesome! Lots of space for your beautiful dogs to run. I've had to stop, or at least slow down with my bag rehabs and purchases. I'm starting to feel a little bit embarassed at how many I have. I just have a suspender bag on its way to me, and would love a burgundy stewardess or old style rambler and I am DONE. At least the display rack gives me an opportunity now to enjoy what I do have. They are so pretty!
