Thanks! Which conditioner do you use when it's dry? I found the same as you, I didn't like applying CPR on a dry bag.

I'm struggling with this post-dunk distressed NYC Dinky. I should have applied a stronger conditioner than CPR. It's presently mostly rehydrated except for a big patch on the front, about an inch or so in diameter, that just refuses to become rehydrated. I would redunk and redo the process but I'd be wasting all the CPR I used so far, which is in very finite supply! I've thickly applied the Chambers leather balsam, blow-dried it, massaged it in and buffed off the excess. I think I'll see how that goes and if the bag won't turn around, I'll have to redunk.

Renapur once it’s fully dry. Im waiting to re-try Blackrocks on my grey rambler, but I don’t know about chamberlain’s as I’ve never used it. When the bag is fully dry, the stuff clinging to the leather should come off with no problem. Let me know how it goes

There may be some kind of stain in that one spot that is keeping the conditioner from soaking in.

I think the gods are trying to tell me something. I bought a very iffy original rambler that I really didn’t need. It’s proven to be a challenge, and to add insult to injury, on the way home from buying it I lost my Illesteva sunglasses that I accidentally got for free because the guy at Value Village (Savers for you in the US) forgot to charge me for them. Fast forward, bought a lovely Costa Rican court (again, it’s a pandemic, stop buying bags!) went for a bike ride with my companion pouch in my basket. Bounced around so much a hole wore right through the piping. Gah! Packing the bags for ban island as I write.

Glued the piping back together. Conditioning the severe road rash. Maybe some paint is in it’s future. Damn! That bag was PRISTINE!!!

I wasn’t being careful & I scraped my red zippered pouch against my shopping cart yesterday at the grocery store. Now there’s a mark on the front & I know if I try to mess with it, it’s gonna look worse. Tragic! I don’t baby my bags but I also try not to be carelessly rough with them. I feel your pain!

I'm silly and superstitious, so I'd feel the Rambler has bad vibes and I'd get rid of it, especially when bad thing kept happening after I brought it home.

You know what? I've been thinking that for the last few weeks. We're in total lockdown until June 2nd, so getting rid of it is kinda hard. I can't even donate it. Also I feel like I'd be passing the bad luck on. Maybe bury it in the park under a full moon?

Sage it, holy water, forget it on the front steps of a church, talk nice to it. I dunno, but something must be done. Lolol!

Giving this a BUMP.
Good Morning Everyone,

I have been overwhelmed with paralysis in attempting any rehab on this special girl.

However, I have conditioned her with a goodly number of CPR coats and applied a top coat of Renapur (before I imported my Blackrocks). The brass I have given a cursory buff, in-situ, with a jewellers’ cloth.

She is too precious for me to keep in a dustbag in my wardrobe and I don’t have the competence nor the confidence to rehab her further. So with a heavy heart, and following the old adage “if you love someone (thing) let it go”, I’m going to be doing just that.

Beforehand though, I wanted to thank you all for your wisdom, support and encouragement, and have attached a few photos of her current progress.

Take care

Zoe xx

Wow, I think you rehabbed her great. You brought out the beauty of the leather. I get you on the idea of rehoming. My project Rambler is sitting on my coffee table  It is already seriously faded so it is my one bag sitting I am totally fine with leaving in daylight!

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve enjoyed looking after her but am working hard on letting go vs hoarding

I’ll look forward to seeing your Rambler in due course!

Take care
