:welcome: 20 bags? You are our kind of people  If you go up to the search feature, click on "this thread" and type in "katev" for the user. She does great rehabs and gives lots of direction. That should tide you over until anyone can respond with details.

Thank you!!!!

Thank you!!!!
My pleasure. Don't be shy about posting a pic of your rehab pile  Taking a little break from going through boxes of stuff I need to decide to get rid of or keep. I am sure you get more responses in the after dinner hours.

This is one of mine. If you see a post that is particularly helpful, there is a book mark feature.

RIP, my hairdryer just stopped working out of nowhere... it's going to be a long drying time. Lol.

Question: my first time using CPR on a damp bag - I wiped excess off with a towel but it has a lot of dust stuck on it now. Do I have to wait until fully dry for that dust to come off? It's getting on my nerves.

Hi, All. New to your forum. Coach bag lover here (I've had several over the years). Anyway, I just purchased about 20 bags for rehab on an auction website. I want to fix them up! Keep some. Gift some. Sell some. Do you have a link to great advice for newbies getting started with this? Or should I just read all 2307 pages? (I might anyway.) Mostly, I'm interested in favorite products/processes for cleaning and restoration. Thanks! -- Connie

This link is for her basic process. Many of us plow through lol.

Welcome! A lot depends on the type of bag, the materials and color, and the areas most in need of rehab. We can provide more specific information if we know the types of bags and their issues.

The first thing you need to do is take "before" pictures and get all of the bags authenticated on the "Authenticate This Coach" thread at the link below. Saving the auction pictures may be helpful but might not include all the details needed for authentication. See the first post on the top of each page that contains the information required. Even if the bag was listed as genuine (or it came when an authentication document) you still need to make sure that it is real. You don't want to waste time, effort, and money rehabbing a fake!

As @Lake Effect mentioned, here is my basic process for rehabbing a vintage, unlined, leather bag:

And here is a very helpful tutorial on rehabbing from @momtok:

There's lots of good advice here on TPF; good luck and let us know if you have specific questions.

I've never noticed CPR dust on a bag, did you put it on very heavy?

I use makeup sponges to wipe off excess...or I just massage to the leather

Nope, just a normal layer like applying moisturiser to my face. I read on here about applying it more liberally and then wiping off the excess. But it's gone a bit stringy and tacky even though I didn't over-apply, at least I think I didn't...:hrmm:
I wipe off excess blackrocks after applying but I just massage CPR in with my fingers and I’ve never had it get stringy or leave dust; maybe you need to shake up the bottle or something? I never pre-treat bags before washing so I don’t know how that affects moisturizing after a bath. Maybe try washing it again in a mild dish soap, I usually use Dawn or Ivory and then massaging the CPR into the leather.

I haven't had that happen. But usually I am working on distressed bags that suck it in. Just to be sure, and please don't take this the wrong way, are you sure you are working with vintage full grain leather?

Side note, I am still using this old Conair hairdryer, age indeterminate, that has this back piece that pops off so I can rinse off the lint and whatnot that accumulates on this screen where the air intake is. I always know when it is time to rinse it when it suddenly stops working.

Yes, the nyc dinky I posted in the vintage chat thread  ETA: just gave the linty parts a scrub and rinse with soap and dabbed it dry and it looks fine now. Will monitor as I go along. EATA: it's back!!! What on earth? Think at this point I'll wait till fully dry to see what's going on.

Thanks for the tip - it randomly started working again when I plugged it in another socket and then back in the original one:hrmm::shocked: haha

I keep telling myself I am going to break down one of these days and treat myself to a new one from Hot Tools.

Thank you! I copied and pasted many things from many threads and stuck them together in a document. I feel pretty confident I can get started. I have several old/sort of decrepit Coach bags of my own that I can play on. The "new" old bags have not arrived yet. Most of them seem to be that signature C fabric, and some that look like Sateen. Some are leather. I only got one that appears to be hard sided leather...and it looks absolutely like new. I don't know that I need to rehab that one at all! Here are some of my purchases:Coach Bag #2.jpgCoach Bag #3.jpgCoach Bag #4.jpgCoach Bags Lot.jpgCoach Bags Lot.jpg

The only one I don't have hope for is that light yellow one. It looks like patent. If that gets stained, I don't know any way to clean it.

Whoa, I didn't know the back piece popped off on any of them. I'm sure I killed my last hairdryer due to the build up of lint.
