Would you please share any words of wisdom in regards to rehabbing light coloured bags?

I'm excitedly awaiting the arrival of my white Chester! My intention is to bleach out any dark spots with acne cream (10% benzoyl peroxide), dunk her in cool water with Dawn/vinegar and condition her with Leather CPR and Renapur (which arrive from Amazon (.ca) this week).

When should I apply the acne cream; before dunking, after dunking, after conditioning?

Also, do you protect your light coloured vintage bags from colour transfer? If yes, what product should I use? Apple Garde Rain and Stain isn't available in Canada and costs $76 on Amazon (.ca)!

Many thanks in advance!

I've used Blackrocks to prevent color transfer. I would imagine Renapur might do the same thing. Or Obenaufs LP, since it is a waterproofer.

I don't know that it matters when you use the acne cream but maybe before dunking so you can wash it off in the bath. It only works on stains and ink, not on wear, so if the corners are worn out, they won't lighten up.

That's great information, whatev, thank you! I've read something about acrylic paint mixed with CPR or Renapur to put colour back on worn areas. Is there another option for light bags?

Many thanks!

Sure, it should work. Just remember that when you see gray or brownish areas on the leather, it could be the original leather color bleeding through so scrubbing could make it worse rather than better.

Excellent point! Thank you, whatev!

Edited to add that I was just reading up on Renapur and it should protect from colour transfer at least to some degree.

I forgot to remove the acne cream from my white bag after it dried and I used renapur over top. The renapur sponge turned copper orange as a reaction to the benzoyl peroxide so don’t forget to clean the acne cream off before conditioning or else you’ll ruin your sponge like me lol

Hey guys...does anyone know if the leather of Bottega Venetta is easy to clean...am looking at a wallet and its has some water stains...wondering if CPR would help. Cant find a BV maintenance thread

There was a post about cleaning BV bags but not water stains https://www.purseblog.com/how-to/a-...on-process-of-a-pre-loved-bottega-veneta-bag/
I have used leather CPR to moisturize a BV but I recommend applying the cream with a piece of cloth. I usually apply CPR with my fingers directly onto vintage coach bags but doing that on a BV will cause white clumps to settle in between the woven bits.

I recently rehabbed a red Murphy Bag that was dirty and had faded corners. I was afraid that I would have to touch up the corners with paint but that wasn't necessary, the color returned with bathing, conditioning, and finishing with Black Rocks - see the link below (and good luck!)

Hi everyone! If mods will allow a slightly off topic post- a "rehab" of a vintage Etienne Aignier bag. It's just a simple update really but it made a previously unused bag much more wearable.

Bought this bag on Poshmark cause I loved the color. So unusual! But the strap was WAY too short for my 5'8" self to crossbody. I don't really like shoulder bags because they fall off.

The way the strap was attached made it easy to just use a seam ripper and take the strap off. Now I can use the bag with any of my novelty straps! Eventually I will take the original strap to the cobbler and get clips put on it as my sewing machine doesn't go through thick leather.

Hello everyone.... help! Please and thanks.

I gave a bath to a NYC bag, and I put vinegar in the water afraid that some mold could "wake up", (it happened to me once).

So everything turned out perfect, except from the small interior zipper pull that looks white now, like corroded.

What could I use to clean it? IMG_7271.jpeg
