Thanks to all of you on this thread I have caught the vintage bug!

Here's my FIRST bag, authenticated by TPF's whatev (thank you!) prior to purchasing!!! It arrived this week and my first exciting/terrifying experience with dunking, removing mould, reshaping and conditioning commenced!

Here she is the day she arrived... in much better shape than I was expecting. Included is a photo of my cat who immediately claimed Abbie's discarded box!

Gorgeous cat! Congratulations!

My new (to me) Abbie M7M 9017 after dunking, reshaping, several coats of Coach Moisturizer and buffing! She's a beauty, but there are still a couple of faded areas on the piping that I'd like to touch up. What do you recommend? TYIA!!

Nice job! It's fun, isn't it? Blackrocks will bring black piping right back to life and give the leather a beautiful luster. Search this thread - and use a light hand and really rub it in. Also, I bought the coach conditioner but discontinued using it because it has silicone in it. Don't know why they do that. I used it on my first vintage coach bag and now I feel like I need to dunk it to clean it. Unless the folks here think standard leather cleaner will do the trick?

Thanks so much for the feedback, mpd! I mistakenly presumed that Coach's Moisturizer was my best choice, but will order Blackrocks right now!!!

What does the silicone in the Coach moisturizer do to the leather? Would it be best to re-dunk my little beauty??? TYIA!!!

Edited to ask where one might buy Blackrocks in Canada? Thank you!

I don’t think you need to re-dunk. I think the more experienced rehabbers advise against silicone on these bags because it’s designed to make leather water resistant and it’s not ideal for long term care of full grain leathers. But it’s also in a lot of leathercare products!

I never dunked my first vintage coach purchase because it showed up in good condition and I loved it too much to try it as my first dunk . I moisturized with the coach conditioner and it still looks great, but I will dunk it at some point and will use a different conditioner on it. The folks here recommend Leather CPR and I’ve had good luck with that. And I hear that renapur (sp) is a good alternative to blackrock as a finishing coat but I haven’t tried it yet. Good luck, your bag is beautiful

And finally, my two greens! My Madison Sutton Satchel didn’t need much done, just some on the corners and a good conditioning. Unfortunately, I forgot to take before pictures.

Here’s my Loden Equestrian Large Flap! I was looking specifically for this color in this style :yahoo: Love the hardware on the Equestrian collection.

I think I want to get an Equestrian Small Flap in Acorn, red, or blue and I’ll be done collecting this collection.
