I've been buying quite a few vintage Coaches over the last two weeks and finally decided which one I wanted to do a color change on. I'm going for a deep wine color and just got my first coat on. Should I add some more plum color to the mix for the next coat? I like the first coat to be a bit lighter than I want the finished project to be when starting with a black bag. Haven't decided if I'm going to do a different color or finish on the piping though.

Ive never painted a bag before...so this is very novice opinion. Wait for your second coat before you add a different tint...you might find the colour you have could darken or wine up a bit more with the extra coat on it.

Morning All!
Okay - I'm post my first dunk by 14 hours - I just did a coat of Leather CPR on the outside - all non-nubby surfaces - and then paused to wonder if it means inside as well? I did a search and have read through multiple pages but couldn't find an "outside only" statement.
How do you gauge the next coat? Super thick or thin coats - enough for it to absorb but not sit on the surface? Sticky is a good sign, right? TYIA - I fear all these questions are the overanalysis side of my brain and hope it doesn't cause stage fright for my rehab projects....
Sorry for the late reply, I wait to apply cpr until the bag is dry (unless it was very dry to begin with). I apply it with a sponge in thin layers so it does not build up at seams. I’ve had the cpr build up and almost bleach the color away from areas on a bag before so I wipe with the sponge panel by panel until it’s mostly absorbed and let it soak in for up to 24 hours before applying more. I also do the smooth leather parts of the inside of the bag as well. I usually start from the inside of the bag and work my way out then let it sit. I’ll also buff with a horse hair brush in between coats when dry on all cpr’d surfaces. Depending on how dry the bag is, it could need anywhere from 1-2 coats of the cpr to somewhere to the point you lose count! Lol
I hope things are going well! Keep us posted! :)

I hope it worked! Both of my hubby's Willis's are from Costa Rica. Such wonderful leather. I have also found leather from the C plant to be really nice too.

I know this was an old convo - but is there a general opinion/love of the various plants with regards to the vintage leathers? I started wondering if I should be more selective on the common styles based on the plant that manufactures and if there was a side-by-side comparison. My search yielded no results previously. TYIA!

Many people love Costa Rican and US leather. It depends on the year as well as the plant. I've had good leather from other plants as well.

Working on a rust colored stewardess today... here’s a few before photos and an in-progress photo too

Update on the NYC Stewardess... I thought she was rust, but now I’m questioning if she’s not actually BT? Her color changes a lot depending on the lighting. I don’t have an older BT to compare right now, only a Winnie. I see other rust bags lean a little more red... opinions?

I vote tabac.
Another vote for tabac.
The votes for tabac are interesting! I definitely see an orangey tone to the bag in person, perhaps other screens show the color differently. The more I look at it the more I’m sure it’s BT. It’s a little pumpkiny in the sunlight, but not reddish enough to be rust. Thanks all for chiming in :)

Wow!
Even though it looks like Tabac in the photo by itself, next to the BT Winnie (twins!) I would say BT. Especially based on the orangey vibe you get.
ETA distressed to perfection
