Another addition to my tan collection. Wish it still had a hang tag.
I dunked in Dawn and vinegar then rinsed. Applied three coats of leather CPR mixed with just a little tinted leather cream while it was still damp. This is the completely dried bag.

You could always add a bag charm if you feel like its missing something without its hangtag! Or you could probably look on ebay or etsy for a replacement tag- maybe a contrasting tag would look nice if you can’t find a BT one? Just a suggestion :)

If I get a good deal on it I will give it a go. It also has darkening on the dowell under the strap - oils from hand I’m guessing. Will bathing help that too do you think?
I don't think it would hurt. Dawn is a great degreaser so I would probably soak the strap in warm water first, then rub some Dawn on it. Then let it soak a bit longer in warm water and see how much of the oily area rinses out. I think Dawn can be drying so I'd make sure to put a few coats of Leather CPR on it before it dries.

This is a good idea. I have some bags that I think don't need hangtags as they don't hang in a place where you can really see them. I have a bag that is so small the hangtag hangs below the bag. On vintage bags I like to use brass charms. Or you could get one of those leather city fobs. I like this seller on etsy for charms that look good with British tan. https://www.etsy.com/shop/VANCACRAFT?ref=usf_2020

I've been wanting to get one of those charms! I had my eye on the small panda, but those flower ones are pretty, too.

I love that pirate charm and I finally just ordered one for myself!

Sad Beekman is done! It's not perfect but it is a huge improvement. This was about the dryest bag I've ever seen. I got it from goodwill because I knew it was going to be a challenge and I wanted to practice. I learned a lot - got to see what the different conditioners can do, what types of spots come out and that on BT bags, the deep-set dark stains are basically permanent. Nevertheless, it's clean, it's shaped, and the leather is soft and lovely again! It's amazing how it can be revived with a little love.

Hi ladies, I need some help please! I bought this Willis and it has some crazy white stuff on it, and it won't come off. You can see it in the before pics, and after a bath and it has dried a bit, it's still there but looks like I've just smeared it around rather than removing it. You can only see it in certain light and at certain angles, if you look straight on at the bag you can't see it at all. It's really weird.

Any idea what it is, and how to get rid of it? Should I try bathing it again? Use more soap? I don't want to ruin the bag by messing with it too much though.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

First pic is before, last ones are after the bath and one coat of conditioner, bag is not completely dry yet.

It looks great! I also enjoy a GW project bag, to hone different techniques. And when you are done, you have a handsome, clean bag!

Its most probably Spue which is an oily substance that leeks out of the bag due to incorrect tanning of the hide.
Use a hairdryer and not too hot a heat , blast it carefully over the leather. Its supposed to worm it up and let the leather absorb it again.
Here is a picture of my ergo shopper which had it bag...one half is dont and you can see the difference
