I keep seeing pretty bags for sale that seem to have needle punctures. Do you absolutely have to mess with a filler or is there a chance they become invisible after dunking due to the leather plumping up?
I have a red bag with this problem on the back and I asked the same question. They looked the same after a dunk for my bag. Someone said whenever they tried to fill them it looked worse off than when they started and another person mentioned that they buffed it a lot and managed to make it look better. I think her bag might have been black though. I buffed mine but it did not do anything but maybe my pricks were bigger than hers or maybe I didn’t do it long enough? I did not attempt to fill them, because knowing myself I would make it look worse. I don’t know if this helps but I ended up just keeping the bag and living with all the pin pricks

I suspect they are from cat claws
If it is just one or two, it is from thrift stores that staple price tags to items. I've never had them become invisible after dunking.

I'm not comfortable disclosing the seller's name as we are trying to work this out. I feel there is genuine remorse/regret and they understand the touch up should've been disclosed, even if in their opinon (not mine), it was a minor one.

I have been offered a larger partial refund to keep this bag. With a little bit of hard work, I have decided it will be a nice addition to my collection. It's been a learning experience for the seller! Me too, because before I bid I will be asking ALL sellers if they've painted/dyed/touched-up the bag in any manner.

This happened to me recently too. I was so pissed when the paint started coming off during the dunk. The seller never mentioned it in the listing. I filed a claim with a EBay and PayPal but because I dunked the purse, they considered it “altered” and so the claim was denied. If I never dunked it, the seller would have gotten away with the fraud. because I dunked it and it was exposed, they got away with it anyway. The seller had no remorse even with all the photos I sent. Grrrr. Sucks.

The thing is, I think, some sellers don't get what we do with rehabbing. They must feel they are just making an old purse look better, they don't appreciate the old leather like we do.

I'm looking for some advice on a potential rehab project. This is my "holy grail", my ultimate goal to acquire. I missed the chance to purchase it new when I was younger and have regretted it ever since. The catch is, aside from keeping my own vintage bags conditioned, I've never tackled a project like this. Do you think it's too much for a 1st time project?

It would have to be authenticated and a replacement strap found, but the price is perfect for me at $38.

I've been following all of the guidance and knowledge being offered here and wonder if a good wash & a deep condition would bring her back to life -- or, do I need to keep looking?

That is faulty reasoning on ebay's part.
You didn't "alter" the bag....the seller did, BEFORE you bought it.
You exposed the original alteration/fraud!!
I'm so sorry that happened to you, Momscoach.

Believe me, that’s exactly what I told eBay and PayPal. The representative from PayPal agreed it was messed up but her hands were tied because of that faulty reasoning.

Btw, I love the lunchbox in your profile pic! I just finished rehabbing one Just like it and posted it here recently.

Thank you for the advice.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks stained. The strap looks bad and you may not be able to find a matching replacement strap and it could be expensive. If it were very cheap and you didn't care much about the bag I would say go for it - but for an important bag I honestly think you should keep looking - but that's just my opinion.

My navy Prairie is all finished. It wasn't in bad shape to begin with, just needed a bath and a couple coats of CPR and Blackrocks. The seller included a card with a lucky penny for the bag.
WOW that's a gorgeous Prairie. I love that rich deep black and I wish I could get my black leather to look like that. I have been on the fence about the Prairie for months and have shied away because they generally look like your before pics. But that after photo is stunning! If there were many for sale that looked like that it would be up there with my gotta-haves.

The prairie does clean up well! It's a good size too.
