That's true. I ruined a vintage Dooney & Bourke, the leather pipping cracked everywhere after dunk. It was too dry to dunk.
That piping is the achilles heel of vintage Dooneys. The AWL wears like iron, but the piping is awful. I have never dunked a Dooney, but on a couple Coach bags that needed a wash but seemed dry, I did a coat of Apple conditioner a few days prior to the wash to hydrate it first.

Can you imagine how much work it would be to do an entire bag? I have no idea how she reached some of those places with a sewing machine.

And it appears she had trouble keeping her stitches even and straight. It's not easy!

I have boundless admiration for those talented sewing machine operators in the NYC factory in the 1970s-1980s.

I am rehabbing an Oat Suede Fringe Dinky 86821 but I am perplexed by the turnlock. The male portion of the turnlock is made of multiple pieces, a stationary silver base, a silver holder that rotates and which holds a black, leather-covered piece that folds over in either direction. There is a tan thread through the center of the black piece that is coming unraveled, see the pics below.

I think that the black leather piece that folds over is is a safety lock. After you close the turnlock you can fold it over in either direction to lock the purse shut - but the black piece on my bag is loose and floppy and I am not sure how to repair it.

Has anyone seen this type of turnlock before? Do other Dinkys have this same closure method? The turnlock is functioning just fine but the floppy piece and unraveling thread are annoying and unsightly, any suggestions about how to repair them? Your ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think that @Bagmedic owns one of these fringe dinky bags? If so, I would also appreciate learning her insights about the turnlock mechanism for this bag.

The bag also has a couple of big wrinkles in the front flap, any suggestions for getting them out? @houseof999 once mentioned a wrinkled Dinky flap so her advice would also be very welcome. I will probably have to dunk this bag because it really is very dirty.

Help!

I am about to start working to rehab the suede fringe dinky. Does anyone have any insights into the problems with the turnlock and/or wrinkled front flap? I would appreciate any suggestions, thanks!

Thanks! I have an XL Ergo Hobo that I've had for years and that I love, but this is my first tote and it is wonderful!

Do you know the retail price for the 10744 XL Ergo Tote when it was released in 2007? I haven't been able to find it on the Wayback Machine, thanks!
Had to do a little research, it retailed for $428 in 2007. FYI- if you ever want to know what an item sold for and cannot find it online, Coach cs knows. If you provide them with the style number, they can tell you what its original selling price was.

That's what I should do. It was long time ago before I know anything about proper procedure of rehab. Talking about All Weather Leather, it really stands up the test of time. This is my small D&B AWL bag that I really like. Thanks goodness, she survived the dunk.

Here's some before and afters of my new Mahogany precious!
I can already tell that this is going to be a travel favorite. It fits everything I might need, but is small enough to not look too out of place in a fancier evening type setting.
The inside zip pocket is generously sized and could keep important documents secure, and the whole thing is skinny enough to hold close to the body to navigate a crowd.
Here goes:
It is gorgeous. I love the color. And it is Maghony? I am a little confused with Maghony & Oxblood.

Here's my latest rehab. A crescent bag! I'm so excited about this one. My very first Coach was a crescent. I got it at a 2nd hand store for $10. I had no idea it was a Coach, nor had I any idea how to properly care for it and let it get too dry over the years, which ruined the portions of the piping. I picked this one up recently, same color as my first one! Here's before and after (before pics came up last)

Beautiful!! You gave it new life. I’m glad you were able to find another one to replace your first one and that you enjoy this one for many years!

I just finished rehabbing a rust crescent bag just yesterday too! I’ll post some pics.
