Per @Narnanz, I’m hijacking and renaming this thread to “Show Us Your Crescent Bag” (jk) but what is it about this one? I knew I wanted one when I saw it on Pinterest but just had to hunt for the color I wanted. I don’t even mind that it’s a shoulder bag (if I used to wear shoulder bags, I can surely return to it for this bag right?).

In my haste after receiving it I didn’t see a big stain on the bottom of the bag as I was getting ready for a dunk. I think with covid I don’t like to handle them too much so I think thats why I didn’t notice it until later (or I’m just blind haha). Thankfully, most of the stain went away after the bath. Love this bag and very happy to have it!

Beautiful bag and you did an awesome job. I always wondering the color rust. What is the difference between rust and burnt orange? I have a metal tab courier, but not sure what is color called?

I'm leaning towards Mahogany - I think Oxblood is not a vintage color. It's amazing and a chameleon. Depending on the light and surroundings, it can look dark brown, burgundy or even purple.

It was probably called Mahogany in 2001. Some Mahogany bags, like yours, have those beautiful burgundy tones. I call it Mahogundy.

I actually have no idea! I don’t even know if the color of mine is actually called rust. I just went by what others called the orange-ish color from the NYC creed era, so I could be wrong. Mine is not as “orange” as yours though, it’s a bit darker orange but is not red.

Those early reds and oranges are so gorgeous but very hard to pin down color names.

One problem is that there are so few surviving color charts from the pre-creed days. I've collected a couple of 1960s color palettes, but I've never come across one from the 70s. The NYC creed era encompasses mid-70s to late 80s. There are more color charts from the 80s, but the only red then was called "Red."

The other complication is the way reds/oranges change with time and wear. They fade and develop patinas. So the bag you see today may look very different, colorwise, compared to the day it rolled out of the factory.

And also, color charts, even in real life but especially on computer monitors, don't accurately reflect the color of the bag, which may look very different in person compared to a photograph of it (lighting plays a huge role).

All of this is to say that "official" color names may only be possible to determine if you have the original receipt or box the bag came in, showing the color name.

It comes down to "eye of the beholder." ;)

Oh I see it now. That's gorgeous! What a great color! ❤❤ And you did an amazing job with that stain, especially given the color of the bag.

I just realized I have a “mahogundy” bag! The way you described it as brown, burgundy and even purple is exactly what it looks like. I never knew what to call it but now I know

Ok, 2 rehab projects I wanted but shouldn’t have gotten lol on their way. One is a BT Derby and the other is a black Winnie. I am noticing as I sit here that my CPR is down to 1/4 of a bottle and Bed Bath & Beyond isn’t open and Amazon ships so slow assuming they have it in stock. Ugh.

Thanks Catbird9 for the detailed information and color chart.

Well this is as good as devon is going to get, I'm not really happy with it and I can't believe how much I actually paid for this. She was definitely someone's only bag for years, or was run over be a tractor-trailer a few times. It's really faded and dried uneven. I hope my other bags coming are going to be a little easier. Before and after.

Still a nice colour though Val. Someone out there will want it.

I think the color came out beautifully.
