Hi everyone! Here's a black multizip I'm working on. @Busykitty Thanks for the heads up about shoe polish- I now believe both black bags I bought were treated with it. I had to remove what looked like glitter nailpolish (pic 1) from the multizip and used acetone to loosen it. Then I realized that the qtip I was using to apply the acetone had a whole bunch of black dye on it, and that the surrounding area looked a lot shinier than the acetone treated area. So I wiped the whole bag down with acetone. I got a whole bunch of black stuff off and then I proceeded to use brasso on the hardware and then dunked and conditioned. I was nervous that the acetone would ruin the leather but it seems ok. The brasso step seemed to create or spread green oxidation between the zipper teeth and fabric along the zipper so I removed as best as I could with wet qtip and toothbrush. After shaping the bag and letting it semi dry, I applied 4 coats of leather CPR,. letting it dry completely between layers. After 3rd layer, bag still seemed a little dry. Now it feels a bit sticky but it's only been 16 or so hours since layer 4. I don't know if I need black rocks. Haven't touched edges yet. I'm pretty happy with how the bag looks now. 3rd and 4th pics are of the current state. The rehab process soothed the raging beast inside- I loved it! Thanks for your help so far. I love this forum.

What a major difference, congratulations!

I need some advice. My green Crosby is nearing the end of its drying phase and I am not sure what to do with the edge of the handle. Should it look like this? If not, green leather paint (would need to buy) or clear ( which I have)?

@Morgan_Bellini is your Crosby handle sealed in the edges?

Hi everyone! I have been doing a bit of experimentation with a signature fabric wristlet and bag I had in storage. I didn't like the high contrast of the black and white weave and wanted to have more of a tone on tone look- similar to the current signature coated canvas. I used black fabric dye from Dylon. I painted the dye on with a brush because I didn't want to dip the leather or the lining in the dye. I let the dye sit for an hour then rinsed. 3 coats later and this is what I have. The wristlet is showing definite blue tones- no idea where that came from. The wristlet is a $2 thrift store purchase so it can be my test subject. I think I may try fabric paint. Less mess and probably a more solid color. The bag is good, just need to rinse again the even out the color. Any hints, tips or suggestions welcome!

I am by no means an expert, but my Court handle looks like this. Seems like it was finished with something clear and thin that has worn off in many (most) places. I just left it as it is, it doesn't bother me and doesn't fray. If you want to coat it, I would go with clear. I think that particular shade of green would be a beast to match.

I don't think so but I'll check when I get home. I think both of mine look just like yours. I'll let you know!

Neither of my Court handles were sealed, but I do wonder if the edges were dyed or painted and then wore off. I ended up painting the edges of my black handle just so it would look nicer. I left my mahogany one alone.

I've never used Dylon, but I've used Rit to refresh the dye on a black on black signature bag. I painted it on, just as you did. It came out very good, but the bag was black to begin with, just faded to brown. There was no blue tinge. I don't know if that is from the dye you used or the fabric. I used to do a lot of batik with fabric dyes. At the time, they only had an effect on natural fibers like silk and cotton. If you used fabric blends, the part of the fabric that wasn't natural wouldn't take the dye, which I believe could be happening in your case, although I think the second bag is nylon. I would have done several layers of dye to see if it would darken. I think even if the wristlet stays blue, if it was darker, it could look very pretty. Coach used to make a navy signature canvas that I really liked.
