Coach did not have a lot of imagination when it came to naming some of their bags. Shoulder purse. Really? Buckle bag! Um how many bags did you make before this one that had buckles? However, these two turned out pretty awesome together! Can you guess why?

What would you do with this bag?

Almost a year ago I picked up a black Court bag 9870 for $7.50 at a local thrift shop and it was authenticated by @Hyacinth.

At the time I almost left the bag on the shelf because it was damaged - the top handle is missing - but the bag was so cheap and I figured I could use it for parts and that the long strap, hangtag, and hardware might come in useful someday.

But it seems a shame, the bag was made in the USA in 1998 and it is in good shape otherwise and I know that it would rehab well. I've thought about tying a pretty scarf though the top handle loops but I don't know if I would every carry it.

Here is a picture of the bag and there are more pics at the link below.

So what do you think, should I attempt to rehab it or keep to my plan of using it for parts if the opportunity arises?

And if you ever see a really beat-up black Court for cheap that still has the top handle please let me know!

Since you can use the shoulder strap to carry, maybe attach a small chain? Or use the loops for fobs. MacGuyer a couple of fobs into a “handle”? I put handle in quotes meaning that it might be more decorative than functional. Or how about looping a scarf through, which could be quite functional. You are good with tying scarves.
Girl, we have all seen your rehabs, and I have no doubt as to your ability to be creative.
I also agree @Sunshine mama needs to weigh in.
And I would also bet that once you cook up a solution, a Court handle appears!
ETA and I agree with whateve, that if you come up with an idea for something beyond your craft box, some one on Etsy could execute your idea. Team No Bag Left Behind

Wonder what it would look like with a bamboo handle a la Gucci?
I was going to say, look for a plastic handle that would accommodate the loops. Or find a suitable belt in contrasting color or, maybe, reptile/crocodile, and cut it to make a handle and a matching strap. You’ll need to cut the belt in the middle, so the buckle would stay with the strap, and attach a piece of the belt as a handle, and the add clips to the belt. Any cobbler can do that once you have the belt and the clips.

The easiest, safest, and quickest way for a handle is to twist a scarf for strength and tie it at both ends. That's what I would do.

Not particularly plasticy feeling, it's pretty soft. If it was polished, will it come off when I dunk it?
I’m not sure if shoe polish comes off in the bath, but it will come off with acetone. If I suspect a bag has been polished I’ll test an inconspicuous place with a q tip and regular nail polish remover (just acetone, no additives). If it’s been polished, the color will come off on the q tip.

Thanks for all these great ideas, there is hope for this poor bag yet!

I think I would rehab it and use your scarf idea and try to use it! If you don’t use it, then just keep it around for spare parts for the future. I would do both! I will keep an eye out for a cheap court with a top handle too.

Ask for help from @Sunshine mama
She has replaced handles on some of her bags. You might be able to find someone on etsy who could make one. I think the idea of putting on a completely different handle, like bamboo, is great! I would go ahead and rehab it while you figure out what to do with the handle.

All done with the navy Regina!

Before - not too bad of shape. The corners had some wear.

After - Love it!
I think the owner knotted the strap but I was able to flatten it out. The Renapur darkened it a bit but maybe that will change back? I just finished it.
