Been doin a happy dance for the past week singing to myself *got me a black post pouch, got me a black post pouch* over and over. Here's a before pic, it wasn't in bad shape. A couple of photos while it was drying in the natural bluish light in the dining room floor. Then in regular room light after 3, maybe 4 coats of CPR, a coat of Blackrock and freshly Renapured. There for a little bit I was scared it was that dark navy but after the conditioning, and plenty of comparing to items I know are black, I am sure it's black.
ETA sorry they're so big! Every time I post photos they end up gigantic!

Awesome transformation, it looks fantastic!

What would you do with this bag?

Almost a year ago I picked up a black Court bag 9870 for $7.50 at a local thrift shop and it was authenticated by @Hyacinth.

At the time I almost left the bag on the shelf because it was damaged - the top handle is missing - but the bag was so cheap and I figured I could use it for parts and that the long strap, hangtag, and hardware might come in useful someday.

But it seems a shame, the bag was made in the USA in 1998 and it is in good shape otherwise and I know that it would rehab well. I've thought about tying a pretty scarf though the top handle loops but I don't know if I would every carry it.

Here is a picture of the bag and there are more pics at the link below.

So what do you think, should I attempt to rehab it or keep to my plan of using it for parts if the opportunity arises?

And if you ever see a really beat-up black Court for cheap that still has the top handle please let me know!

Wonder what it would look like with a bamboo handle a la Gucci?

I think I would rehab it and use your scarf idea and try to use it! If you don’t use it, then just keep it around for spare parts for the future. I would do both! I will keep an eye out for a cheap court with a top handle too.

Ask for help from @Sunshine mama
She has replaced handles on some of her bags. You might be able to find someone on etsy who could make one. I think the idea of putting on a completely different handle, like bamboo, is great! I would go ahead and rehab it while you figure out what to do with the handle.

Thanks! It really did photograph pretty much navy blue. I was photographing it everywhere in my house and outside in the sun and so I laid it next to my other blacks photographed them together and sure enough, they all looked bluish. But I have a keychain with a dark navy leather on it, and some black leather keychains, all Coach and it's not the navy color. Plus that's a black glove that I used to open the box because that bag came to me from Seattle. So I let it sit for a few days before I handled it very much.
ETA pay no attention to my dirty patio, my husband mopped it clean and we spring cleaned all the outer windows today.
Wow, beautiful bags. Now I need to look for a winnie and a post pouch, too, Someday.
