I have actually yet to buff a bag. I've been massaging the conditioner in really well and then letting it dry. I tried to search for buffing just now--is it just wiping the leather in circular motions with a soft cloth? Or in a particular way?
I use a brush but you could do it with a cloth. You do it after the conditioner has dried.

Mail day and got the tan watermelon tote and a red Sonoma shoulder bag (not sure about the name). The watermelon tote leather is so thick yet so soft, she is the thickest among all my vintage bags. Can't wait to start rehabing her on weekends. The handles are darkened from usage, make it looks like 2 toned. Not sure how will that turn out after rehabe.

They're beautiful! Don't worry about the handles. They won't lighten up much. You can lightly scrub them to remove some of the grime but don't scrub too much or you will damage the leather. They darken from the oils in people's hands.

ETA: I wonder if leather degreaser would do anything.

Thanks Whateve. Actually I don't mind the darker handles, they are almost evenly darkened, as long as rehabing will not make them unevenly toned. I'd like to reserve as much aged leather patina as possible , but want to get rid of the old leather smell.

Have anyone figured out a creative way to extend the straps on the shoulder bags from the 2000s (armpit time!)? My friend loves the Bleecker flap, but she is pretty tall and it just doesn’t look right. I want to give her that bag, but she needs a longer strap.

Hi, just coming back to life after dealing acute bronchitis the last few days. So a bit late to this post, but I really like how my carriage fob extended this handle a bit.
ETA, I’m not sure what’s out there for nickel hardware!

Wanted to ask advice on this. The bag I'm working on, I noticed that the inside dried darker than the outside. I tried to get a picture to demonstrate the effect:

What can I try to get it more uniform? I also know now that it CAN be darker so ideally I'd achieve that all over. Any suggestions? I am planning to recondition and buff at least one more time, but so you think I should redunk it maybe?

I really like it the way it is.
