Hi all! Got this cute Austin bag in bone and it looks pretty dang amazing for the most part, haven't even started rehab. But it's got a bad case of verdigris under the zipper and in a couple other places where the brass is in contact with the leather. I've read on here that it's hard to remove. I was thinking of trying to file it off, gently of course?? Good or bad idea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am getting ready to use Renapur on the camel Willis that I am rehabbing. This will be the first time I have used this product and I would appreciate advice and tips on best way to apply and use it; I did save the sponges that came in the packaging with the container.

Thanks in advance!

I received mine from Amazon a few days ago. One jar ($25) was packed inside a sturdy cardboard box with two sponges and a printed pamphlet. No safety seal on the jar.

ETA: I compared my jar to the ones being sold by the eBay seller linked above. His has a blank lid, a lot number stamped on the jar, and the quantity is different. His are 5 oz, mine is 6.7 oz.

I bought mine from the Amazon store and it did not have a seal though it did come with two sponges, one of which I cut in half so now I have three sponges.

I first used cosmetic sponges with CPR, but now I just use my fingers. I use the soonges to wipe off any excess

I have used it on four bags. The first and second I used the sponge that it came with. As a brand new user, I just tapped a modest amount of product on the sponge and smeared it on. I tried to get it evenly applied. I did not try to use it "sparingly" nor did I overapply, in my opinion. Then I sat them over on the counter to "dry." After using it on the second bag, I did find tiny fibers coming off of the sponge. I had some cosmetic sponges sitting around that I thought I would use on the third and fourth bags. I liked that sponge a little bit better although the product applied exactly the same as on the orig sponge. I don't think it did a whole lot to soften or condition, personally, but my house is also super dry so it's almost like my situation is not normal so you might find it conditions perfectly fine. But it did blend scratches back to normal coloration and the leather on my BT Regina and BT Daypack turned out beautifully evened out and gave them a great looking finish.

Um, I realized that I misspelled verdigris and that's why I couldn't find posts on it. Duh! Found a bunch now that I spelled it correctly. Lol. No need to reply to this post! I'll post after pictures when I'm done though :)

Very pretty! I would try to be careful in removing the verdigris from a white bag because I wouldn't want it to smear. You might do your best to cautiously clean it up and then get some matching acrylic craft paint to try and cover it? Pipe cleaners might help you clean inside the handle loops - good luck!

Thank you! I'll need it ;) Pipe cleaners are a good idea! Didn't even think of that. And yes, based on what I read, I will try to pick it off first. Paint might just be necessary.... I don't like using paint, but if I can't get it all off, it might be the way to go. It's such a cute bag in amazing condition otherwise; I'd hate to screw it up! I will just have to proceed with care and caution. Thanks for your tips! And thanks to everyone who has posted about this topic in the past too. Very informative, as usual!

Just finished rehabbing my black Costa Rican Patricia’s Legacy! She was in good condition, just dry. One corner was worn down to bare leather, but it was still intact.

I used Saphir Creme Renovatrice in black to recolored the edge that was worn down. All the rest of the worn edging color came back with a bath and lots of conditioning.

My third rehab! I found this cute court purse at value world, half off and bone dry. I originally thought it was almost an off-white. A member here suggested putty. It actually looks darker in the photo than it did in real life. This bag was very pale.

And this is it after a bath and tell coats of conditioner (and a bit of scrubbing on the one stain, but I went in knowing that was mostly a lost cause):

I was amazed at how much darker it got!

Yes. It has to be put on sparingly and then immediately wiped off with a paper towel. Are you buffing between coats of conditioner? That really helps.
I have actually yet to buff a bag. I've been massaging the conditioner in really well and then letting it dry. I tried to search for buffing just now--is it just wiping the leather in circular motions with a soft cloth? Or in a particular way?
