I had this bright idea once of wanting to electroplate the frames back to gold. Then I looked up how much those units cost and gave up immediately! It would be nice if you could find the same size kisslock frames and just replace them. I haven't explored the options.
Most of the frame is in very good condition its just that one small section and it is on the side with the small discoloration so I think I can live with it.

I think you should start with Leather CPR, it is a good all-purpose leather conditioner. I use products like blackrocks as a finishing coat to restore sheen and color to older, faded bags. For your wristlet, I would give it a bath (or 2 baths if it doesn't come clean!) Arrange it on a towel to dry, turning occasionally. When the leather is not quite dry I would give it an application of Leather CPR, after it is dry I would give it another application and buff. And if I felt adventurous, I would mix Leather CPR and gold acrylic paint and try to restore the gold finish on the leather - but you probably don't need to do that, see how it looks and then decide.

You won't need a leather cleaner because you are giving it a bath!
Will be ordering some CPR then, thank you! And a bath--that's just warm water and dish soap?

First time rehabber, with a suede bag. I dunked it, but when I took it out to dry, I noticed the edging on the strap was now all flaking off

It's like this all the way around the strap. I'm guessing there isn't much I can do past paint the edging back on when the bag is dry and clean?

Also wondering what I did wrong. Or if I did? The edging was fine before the dunk. I used soap and warm water for 20 minutes, rinsed, and then dunked it for 15 minutes in clean warm water without soap.

I haven't had that problem but maybe it soaked a little too long for that particular bag? Did you have the bag authenticated to make sure that it is genuine?

You are correct that puff painting the edging is your only option to repair the loss.

Sometimes my rehabs have not been successful, so I try to find inexpensive bags that won't be a big loss if I have a setback. I am sorry that you've encountered this challenge and I hope the rest of the rehab turns out great! What bag are you working on? Good luck!

Taking the plunge with my first rehab...there is something oddly satisfying about swishing a bag around soapy water! Wish me luck!

I just wanted to share the end result of my first rehab. I don’t post a lot, but I have learned a ton from everyone in this forum, and thanks to you, I had the confidence to tackle a rehab. So a huge thank you to you all!
I am pretty happy with how it turned out. There a few a pen marks on the outside (and even more inside) that I didn’t tackle but I am okay with that - I figure it will encourage me to use the bag and not baby it!

After a bath, few coats of CPR and one of Renapur (the second photo is with my new to me Manor that came in such nice condition that it only needed a coat of CPR):

I did have it authenticated, yes, but I don't doubt that I soaked it for too long. Oh well! I will know from next time, and this is a good bag to learn on. $6 at a thrift store

It is mainly suede, so once it dries I'll be brushing it (or doing my best!). There are also several marks on the fabric lining inside that I tried to scrub out before dunking, but I'm going to give them another go. Figure I might as well.

I will try to use puff paint to fix the edging then! Once it's as cleaned as best as I can get it and brushed. No reason not to try and learn since I've got the opportunity.

It's a Soho suede Swingback, and a really nice bag I think! Just very grimy.

(And I'm working on my wristlet too. It's almost completely dry from its bath. The colors aren't as vibrant as I think they could get though. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears!)

Very nice! Much more vibrant.

A few of questions for the Renapur users.
Does it have a drying period like we have with Blackrock?
Do you wipe excess off or anything?
Do you do a buff with a horsehair brush or cloth at any point?
Do you find that the product comes off on any clothes/car seats/any other surfaces?
Or transfer color into it from jeans or cloths or anything onto lighter colored leather? I assume any issue like this would have already been discussed but just letting my mind wander for the moment.

Here are some photos of fresh coats. So far, I like what I see and how it applies and the early results. I think it may be what my black station needed to get it past its dull sheen and get it back to sassy but I'll see how it goes. My daypack is from Hungary, which at first I thought was going to be really cool, having a Hungarian bag, but I really just think its just so-so wrinkled leather. :/
