What a deal! Some of the leather has that pebbly look seen in the older vintage NYC bags, that I see as desirable! And just because I’m replying to the great deal you got, I used Fiebing’s Leathercraft Cement for some piping that was worn open and was pleased. It happened to be in a local Michael’s for $2.95 or $3.95.
Thank you for the recommend! And good eye noting the pebbling! The feel of the leather on this bag is particularly interesting to me as it is so similar to the leather on my 1970s era Bonnie Cashin for Meyers turn lock bag: which has that same mild pebbling quality in places. Also this bag has a sort of flat design buckle just like my Cashin for Meyers bag has, as opposed to having that little curved "dip" a lot of Coach bag buckles have. It's like the two bags form a snapshot into a particular era of the Cashin/Coach aesthetic. Hyacinth said my bag was prob made between 1977-1987. I always wanted a brown or tan Stewardess because I love the one Jill Clayburgh carries in the 1978 film An Unmarried Woman but this bag will do just fine because I am determined to bring out her beauty! Hah! I've even dubbed this bag "Jill" in honor of Clayburgh (that's some major crazy bag lady talk I know but I love naming my bags sometimes:blush:). I tend to get bags that are more gently used so this will be my most ambitious rehab to date.

I filled a moldy bag with straight white distilled vinegar and let it sit over night. Killed the mold but not the bag!
I thought something bad was happening to the green city...but it turned out to just be a bit of dust. I put the bag down on a counter while still wet with conditioner and dust stuck to it. Its been really windy here and the dust is getting everywhere no matter what we do.

This is my first rehab. Before and after.

question: note the darkening around the trim. This happened when I conditioned it before it was dry. Will it ever go away?
For a first try I’m happy enough with the results. So much so that I was carrying it on the streets of Manhattan last night!

Here is a side by side comparison of two blues: 2005 unknown blue Rambler's Legacy and my new to me 2004 Janice's Legacy, which might be federal blue. I haven't dunked the Janice yet. I never saw anything special in Janice by looking at pictures but IRL she's adorable.
That blue Janice's Legacy with the nickel hardware is a new addition to the "bags i want" folder!

Crazy or not , we get it here, no ‘splaining needed!
Yes, I know at one point all the more knowledgeable posters here on some thread had in depth posting on curved versus flap buckles. All my NYCs with a buckle have flat ones, but curved ones are possible too. I don’t have any bags with pebbling, sigh, but have seen them posted and discussed. I love the pebbling in the leather side of my Berkeley Flap.
Lol, here’s a twenty, pick me up the next one you see!

How do you take them off? I've been using a tiny screw driver but it kinks the oval plate every time so I stopped taking them off. I'm off of work for the week so I have to get as many bags rehabbed as I can and many of them have nasty verdegris around the locks, so they'll have to come off.
It was my first time so I used what I could find. It did scratch the back a little but its ok. Very small precision flat head screwdrivers . Will have to look if I can find those plastic tool sets in nz.

One belated Birthday gift, 2 Christmas gifts and the gold Graffiti pouch , well, that’s for me
Feel free to think, hey Lake, what’s the rush , lol lol
I'm thinking "Hey Lake, are you crazy to soak a cream colored bag with purple and black bags?!?" Kudos to Coach quality and stain resistance if that cream bag stays cream. But you know what you're doing, so I'll stay calm and wait for the after pics.

Sorry to shake you up girl! The two black leather bags were thinner leather, made in China so I knew there would not be running like made in the USA bona fide vintage leather. And I was ready with a bucket to pull out the purple Lurex (whatever that means ) pouch and the cream canvas pouch if needed. Just a quick 10 min wash in warm water with a tbsp of Lexol Cleaner. Shorty rinse. All were very clean to start with. The leather is really nice on the black bags, very smooshy, so I figured I’d dunk to maximize the smooshy-ness with conditioner.
ETA lol you were not off base to think I was capable of going rogue though . . .
