Rit can be used for leather? Did you use the regular Rit or is there a leather version? And for how long did you dunk, and was there color transfer after? Sorry for all the questions, lol!
There isn't a leather version as far as I know. It was just regular RIT. It probably says on the package not to use on leather. I've done it three times, once to a Sonoma bag, once to a suede bag and the third time to a 2012 Legacy duffle. What I learned was that if you are using the powder, don't add the salt. It just dries out the leather. I didn't worry about colorfastness and I never had color transfer afterwards. Even without the salt, it does dry out the leather so you need to condition a lot afterwards. I also learned not to use super hot water. It was fine with the Sonoma but with the newer bag, it melted off all the edge coat, which was brown and left little brown stains all over. So the 2012 duffle was kind of a failure since I ended up using Leather refinisher by Wood n Stuff after. I believe it would have been perfect if the water wasn't hot, but maybe then the dye wouldn't have penetrated as well. I dunked both the Sonoma and the duffle. I think I left them in the water overnight. The suede bag I had originally used Fiebings suede dye but as soon as I brushed the suede, the dye came off! I tried dyeing it again and the same thing happened. After that, I think I used the liquid RIT and just painted it on. I had used the painting method of RIT for fabric bags before. The biggest problem with either painting or dunking was getting the color on evenly.

Hello! I was just wondering what you decided to do with your purse. I hope it turned out perfect
Thanks for your message! I am still deciding what I want to do with it. I think that I might do a bit of the paint/moisturizer suggestion. But I have been too busy over the last few days to get to the store to get the paint. I'm still mulling it over. But I think that I will do a teensy bit and see how it turns about before I do the whole area in question. The bag is totally clean otherwise so it's nearly ready to wear. Thanks for circling back and I will post a picture when it's done! :-)

Hi. I’ve recently become addicted to vintage Coach & I’m ready to try some rehab after seeing all the amazing transformations posted on this forum! I want to thank everyone for taking the time to share their knowledge & experience so newbies like me can learn.
I’m thinking of buying this bag but before I do, I wanted to ask if it’s possible to remove all of those scratches with work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I dyed all the suede, but proceeded to spill Leather Therapy on the flap:facepalm:
Wow. Just Wow. I have a very worn Scooter bag and lack luster neutral Court Bag. You are giving me ideas . Ty for posting your process as well!
I think with time and a little brushing, I use a nail brush for my suede bags, the LT spill will diminish.

I can't guarantee you'd be able to remove all the scratches, but the bag will definitely perk up with a bath and conditioning. Most of the scratches will blend in and be less noticeable.

Scratches won't go away with a rehab but should be very hard to see afterwards. The nature of the soft leather Coach used makes it scratch very easily. Every time I carry one of my vintage bags I think I add a few more scratches.

Love it!

P.S. Your collection seems to be growing. I just noticed that beautiful Dooney Essex(?) you have in there. :graucho:
Yup! I saw a lady with this beautiful green Essex a month ago, and I just had to look it up! Found one for less than $20, so I snatched it up. Also ended up being intrigued by D&B Ostrich, so I have a dingy bucket style one ($12!) coming my way:giggle: I saw a larger one on a review for Saphir Creme Surfine! So I also need to purchase some Saphir cream for it (and some exotic leather condition/cleaner).

I’ve been brushing it every once in a while in hopes that it’ll look better!
I have a light tan Sonoma bucket that I want to dye eventually, too:graucho: I’m thinking I’ll try oxblood or burgundy next! I used Angelus suede dye (alcohol based) for my Devon, but I want to try Fiebing’s professional dye for my next project. I heard oil based dye is really the best dye for leather.

It may take a few weeks for the LT to be absorbed completely and dissipate a bit.
Ty for the info!
