Morning all, I have a question for those who were brave enough to dunk bags from the 2000s with Legacy lining. I know the fabric should be tough enough to survive it, my major concern is that the wet leather will transfer its color onto the fabric. I once cleaned a black wristlet, and the leather that accidentally got wet ran and ruined the lining. The bag is made of pink/magenta suede, and no way I can avoid dunking. Anyone washed one of those? Thanks!

The only bag I have ever dunked was a dark green shoulder bag from that line with the legacy lining. It worked out fine, somehow. But I do know what you mean about the lining. I had one bag that I was just cleaning the lining a bit with a wet cloth, and some of the color from just the lining transferred a little.

I think I did this bag in a pillow case in the washing machine, as I figured dunking it in the tub would get the thick leather so wet it would be hard to get dried (and seemed quicker and easier). Anyway, good luck!

Have been sifting through the older posts and found @katev's post about conditioning washed and dried suede with emu oil. Impressive info for sure! Still, I'm more worried about color transfer from suede to the legacy lining. Oh, and found out the bag is Hoversack. I'd hate to ruin it even though it was free (usps delivered a soaking wet package with totally messed up bag inside. At least I got the refund!)

I dunked a brown leather Ergo and didn't have any problems but I'm not sure about suede.

I dunked a pink suede signature bag that belonged to my sister and the suede bled all over the signature fabric. I ruined the poor bag. I am way too scared to dunk suede now. The lining seemed ok, it was when the bag was hung to dry that the bleeding started and it seemed to mainly affect the outside of the bag.

I found a grimy teal suede Bleeker Haversack, with an anniversary striped lining. It was grimy, but only $20. After a little spot cleaning, on advice here combined with a lot of grime, I ran it though the washer once . Yes, you read correctly. It removed a lot of grime and was not worse for wear. No bleeding into the lining. In my zeal, a while later I decided to give it a brief 10 minute dunk to further scrub the bottom of the bag and the bottom of the little pockets, then ran it through the washer again, once. If I recall, there was a tiny bit of bleeding into the lining. I am away for the weekend, I can take pics when I get home. I’ll find my post after the first wash.

@catthecurious I found my post, can’t find the after pic . .
So I have a few busy days coming so I wanted to report in on the teal suede Anniversary haversack. It is almost dry after less than 36 hours, which I sort of hoped/expected between the weight of the suede and going through a spin cycle.
First off, after going through a gentle cycle in old school top loader (filled the tub with warm water 1/2 way, rest with cold and teaspoon of baby shampoo, in an old flannel pillow case secured with hair elastic, with a dark towel and sheet , not quite a full load) there does not appear to be any fading and there was no bleeding onto the lining.
Overall I feel it was a very good result! The bag overall was grimy. I had toothbrush spot cleaned a few areas here and there with a dilute Dawn solution and that did remove some surface grime. There was still marked grime over areas of stress / contact like the front and back pockets and creases that angle down from the handles that naturally occur from using and carrying the bag. And this bag was used!
So my result is that there is still some *dirty* discoloration in the areas where it is prone to happen. However I feel between the gorgeous teal color *popping* out after the wash combined with the *dirty* areas being dialed down a couple of notches, I can look at the whole bag and will enjoy it!
I will post a pic when I can, but do to my photo skills and lighting, am not sure if I can capture the sublte changes, as I didn't capture the full grime effect in my before pics.
Brushing the daylights out it as I finish my coffee:biggrin:
Thanks to all who post their processes and suggestions here, you made this happen:flowers:
I’ll post some before and after pics later.

I'm not envyous,:amazed: nooo I don't envy you the bag at all, or the price. :no:
What I do envy you is your location and the great thrift and second hand stores that seem to abound where you are.:crybaby:
I think it's my proximity to NJ, NYC, and Philadelphia, plus Allentown used to have a huge department store called Hess's that was the place to be back in the day. Thrifting especially for clothing and antiques is really amazing here in Allentown.

Several years ago we traveled cross country. I bought a Fendi in PA for $5! There was another store in PA where all bags were $4. I got a few Coaches.
