I've had whiteout come out completely in the bath too.
I did try to clean it with some water and then some lexol cleaner. It did lighten a bit but the heavier stuff is still there. I wonder if it is nail polish? Has anyone tried alcohol or maybe nail polish remover? I'm thinking I'll just use a tiny paintbrush to just hit the white streaks.

Hi Ladies it is me or does the dunk make the bags smell more? It seems to be much more noticeable after they get wet. I have been buying bags at resale shops and ebay and restoring them with various methods I learned here. I am gifting several of them and I hate to give a smelly bag. I found myself with some time spare free time after I quit my job! I needed something to get my mind off work. Bags are my thing so I am having fun building my collection.

What do you find is the best way to kill that wet and vintage type of smell. So sad that I spent hours of time on these bags and they smell.
Thank you for your help. I am learning here and I appreciate your help.

COACH bags have a funky smell. You get used to it but I know when I receive a funky smelling bag it's more than likely a COACH bag that needs a bath.

Hello all...im still pretty new to vintage coach but have learned a bit along the way. My 1st time posting in the rehab section I believe. I have this vintage bag that has some dents to the leather and im wondering if theres anyway to fade it out some. Its a forest green color and not in too bad a shape besides those dents.

Here are the pics and thank you!

Love this!

How did you do it? Just a dunk and conditioner?
Or did you use dye or paint?

Details, please? I'm so curious.

So sorry for the late response! I'm only now just seeing your message.

Man I wish this only required some leather conditioner!

To prep it I took off the turn lock hardware and gave the leather a light sanding with some really fine sand paper. And then wiped it down with some acetone.

Then I used masking tape to cover any areas with out paint (like the under side of the strap & the interior)

Then I use Angelus paint in the color 'mint' (Im lucky the color was a perfect match!!) and painted thin even layers across the whole thing (and make sure to let each layer dry before adding another). It took a couple layers of paint before it started looking fairly decent.

Altogether it took 4 layers for the color to saturate evenly and then one more layer to brighten it up.
Then I put everything back together and cleaned up any paint I got on the stap buckles.

I think that's about it. The one thing a probably could have done (especially while the hardware was off) was polish all the brass parts. I could probably still do that.

(This is just a quick run thru of what I did)
But If anyone see's anything I should have done, or could have done differently, please dont hesitate to give me any pointers.

Thank you! I had been looking forward to this as one of my bone colored bag is in terrible condition! I've never used Angelus paint before. Does the directions say you need to seal it after painting?

I didnt use any sealer on my bag because I wanted it to have a more vintage feel.

If you do decide to use sealer, you could use a sealer with a matte or satin finish, so you dont end up with a super shiny purse.

Im not sure the sealer is as important as prepping the leather. Just make sure you properly prepare your bag before you paint it. Its important you remove any kind of wax, oils or coatings.

Angelus has a preparer and deglazer.. But I completely forgot to order it and ended up just using acetone instead. It worked perfectly. You might even have to use fine sand paper if its neccessary. I used it just to make sure the paint would absorb well.

You'll want to figure out what type of leather you're working with to figure out what kind of preparation it will need. Just google "how to prepare leather for acrylic paint". And it should explain exactly what to do. Good Luck!!

I have used Angelus paint to touch up edging or a corner, but I don’t know that I would paint a whole bag. Dye would be better if you need to do the whole thing. You might want to look into Tarango dye which isn’t penetrating, it sits in top like paint will, but is meant to cover a large surface area vs paint.

Thank you. I would much rather dye than paint. 2 years ago a seller I saw a bag on ETSY and the seller had painted it with Angelus paint. It was way too flawless looking as is it was smooth faux leather with no natural variations that Coach bags supposed to have as per the Creed. However, the white/bone bags were sprayed and not dyed. So maybe I should spray paint it? :huh:Lol!

how about this https://www.etsy.com/listing/128529...go-self-shine-leather?ref=shop_home_active_29. They might have other near bone colors, but I found this first.
