You are all so kind sharing your knowledge and experience with me.I just retrieved the other purses to my suprise there in much better condition then what I read in the listing. The insides are pristine and have a clean leather smell to them, I won't dunk those two, I don't think they ever held more then a hankerchief and a small prayer book.Gosh I'm so exited, not that anyone could tell.

So happy to hear that! It's a wondeful feeling when bags arrive in better condition than expected.

P.S. Would love to see pictures of your bags, if you'd like to show us here. =)

Thank you Catbird, I ordered blackrock, since I'm doing it I will do it right. I shall post before pictures when the others arrive this afternoon.
Don't know if you already know this but it bears repeating.......Use the Blackrocks sparingly... and wipe off any excess and let it seep in and dry then buff. You can always go back and do another coat after the first one has dried and you buff... a little bit goes a long way and too much can be ..sticky and not dry properly. It is really great stuff and i love it.and use it all the time but it can be tricky if you are heavy handed with it.
Your boss sounds like a love! enjoy your new treasures!

And keep in mind:
Lexol Cleaner , Dawn dish detergent , Castille soap to clean (I have used all 3)
White vinegar
Toothbrush
I can’t tell you how many times I was ready to dunk only to find I was out of white vinegar

May I please ask: vinegar?

I realize people use vinegar water if a bag smells funny.

But should vingar be used even when the bag smells fine?

And if so, for all bags, regardless of the color of the leather?

And how much, and how, should it be used?

And what's the reason for using vinegar?

(This is something I've wondered about and searched for a couple of times, but still don't really understand, so haven't started doing.)

Vinegar can help to kill mold and bacteria, remove any residual soap and act as a softener. I have started using it regularly. I use one cup in my sink dunks, which is generally 2 - 2 1/2 gallons of water. And I dunked lots of bags without it as well.
ETA, it came on my radar when I posted that I had used 1 cup of bleach in a dunk because of the obvious smell of mildew from two bags bought at a flea market. There was no ill effect from the bleach, but there were a lot of responses for alternatives to treating mold, vinegar being one.

Sorry it took so long, I ended up packing them all up and bringing them to bossy's house so we could share our exitement together and thanks to the time frame you all so kindly provided the heat is off. She is no curmudeon at all, I have had the pleasure of working for her these past eight years, I hope to work with her many more.

Thank you!!

Do you use the vinegar while washing the bag in the soapy water?

Or only after, while the bag sits in the non-soapy water?

May dunk a red bag today, and think I'll try that.

P.S. Offhand, I remember that you use Lexol cleaner.
The red bag I mentioned has some minor dark marks, and the bottom edges look a little bit dirty.
I'm debating about going ahead and dunking, VS. waiting until I have Lexol to surface clean the bag first.
I've never used Lexol, and don't know if it's suitable for red.
Or if it would even help.
It's just an option that occurred to me.

I've used vinegar in both the soapy water and in the rinse. I haven't noticed that either one is better. I like adding vinegar because it makes the hardware shiny, which means less polishing at the end of the rehab.

I tried Lexol cleaner, but I wasn't impressed.

I usually use vinegar in the rinse water.
I first heard of Lexol ages ago, around 2005 ish, when I was doing a little intermittent reading on the Coach eBay boards then. In addition to using it for dunking, I will use it to wipe down a bag that I am not going to dunk (and I use it to wipe down leather shoes, sandals, boots before conditioning). I used it to wipe down a red Pocket Bag that didn’t need dunking. I like to do it to remove and loosen any surface dirt and moisten the bag a tiny bit before using conditioner. I put a little Lexol in some water in a small bucket. I moisten a cloth with water, wipe the inner and outer bag surface with it. Then wet the cloth with the Lexol, thoroughly wipe the bag, inside out. Then one more wipe with water only. Because it is only a surface wipe, it dries quickly. I wait 15 and then condition with Cadillac Supreme . Just my little routine I settled into.
I have removed some dirt/ marks with a surface clean only. Just depends on the mark.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

Thanks so much!

About Lexol, you mentioned "using it for dunking." Does that mean you add Lexol to the water when you dunk a bag, in addition to soap and vinegar?
Does that m
