@vickenator
So it got a 20 minute scrub (with a tooth brush) in warm water in my kitchen sink with a 1/4 cup of Lexol cleaner followed by a 20 minute warm water soak / rinse. I let it sit in the sink for a bit to let the excess water run off. As it was drying over 2 or so days, I gave it about 3 or 4 applications of Leather Therapy. When it was completely dry I gave it an application of Obenauf's Oil. 24 hours after that it gotcan applicagion of Black Rock. Then a buff, buff, buff!View attachment 3705977View attachment 3705978. Alot of the darker stains came lightened to where they blend with the patina.
This was an early rehab. I only use 1/2 to 1 oz of Lexol Leather Cleaner now!!! The products I used were mentioned in a video from a former poster here, which I found prior to finding this rehab thread. I was glad I found that video, because it gave me a basic base to start with. Before I exposed to dozens of products here. Co-sign @Catbird9 recommendation list.
Also, do a search for @dstalksalot for a link to her rehab video.
Hope this helps.

Good morning, I'm a total newbie when it comes to coach rehabing.I bought a Patricia Legacy last fall at GW she was in great condition, clean no edge ware or scratches. So my love of vintage Coach purses was born.I have kept her conditioned with Apple Care and she is soft and buttery I love her dearly.Of lately I have bin moaning a bit about her heftyness in the Florida heat.My boss overheard this and went on a shopping frenzy on e-bay. The first gift, a black station messenger bag hit me Thursday at work, after I got the mail, she casually shoved the box across the table, that is for you I think. She wached me like a nervous cat while my jaw hit the ground.I had her authenticicated here right away.On my way out the door she pops up with, there is a couple more coming, I had them shipped to your house, Im tired of you waring the same bag all the time. Those two turned out to be genuine also.So I now have the pleasure of rehabing 3 black new to me Coach purses. After reading here for the past couple of days I have ordered leather cpr, edgecoat, obenauf's and a new horsehair brush.I have cape cod cloth for the hardware and whoolite and the regular old fashiond dawn. It seems to me the more I read the more stuff is mentioned, like blackrock. What is the difference between blackrock and obenauf's.Im getting confused by the overload on information. The purses I'm trying to do are all black and smooth leathered. The messenger bag I gave a conditioning coat with Apple care just because it felt so dry and stiff.I still plan on dunking her when the ergo mini and small legacy zip get here. So right now I'm sitting on my hands with my boss breathing fire up my back, she is 80 with no time to spare as she is so fond of pointing out.

Your boss sounds like quite an interesting woman!

The difference between Blackrock and Obenauf's:

Blackrock is applied as the final coat, after your other conditioners have penetrated into the leather. We don't know exactly what the ingredients are besides carauba wax, but as they say on their website, it "imparts a high luster and exceptionally brilliant long-lasting shine." I use Blackrock on every smooth leather item in my closet - purses, shoes, wallets. It's an essential for me.

https://www.blackrock-leather.com/pages/how-its-made

There are two different types of Obenauf's:

Obenauf's LP-
leather preservative, protects and waterproofs. Designed for boots that will be used in extreme conditions such as snow, ice, mud, etc.

Obenauf's Oil - a penetrating conditioner that restores dry leather with natural oils, beeswax and propolis
https://www.obenaufs.com/

I haven't tried Obenauf's, but I've read that in some cases, it may darken the leather. This may or may not be something you'd want.

I saw you mentioned a big horsehair brush, so reminds me!
If possible, I'd like to please ask a question here about that.

Can the same horsehair brush be used for all bags, regardless of the color of the bag?
I got a horsehair brush a little while ago, and since then have only used it on navy bags.

I'm about to do a red bag, and am wondering if I need a second brush.
A couple of hours ago, I bought a second horsehair brush (and figured I'll return it if I don't need it).

A cobbler told me recently that I'd need a separate horsehair brush for dramatically different colors of leather, because the brushes will have dye on them. Wondering if that's true, or if he just wanted to sell me ALL THE BRUSHES. ;)

Also, should the horsehair brush / brushes be cleaned in some way?

I’ve wondered about needing different horsehair brushes for various leather colors too. My current one is still relatively new (a replacement after realizing I buffed a bag that had black shoe polish on it ) but I did recently rehab a red bag that required much buffing & I’d be less than confident to use it now on a white/ivory bag. I was thinking I’d get another just for light colors. I believe they cost me $6 each so it’d be worth the piece of mind.

I have yet to wash/clean a brush.

Took some pics of the bath since water color can help determine bag color (why 4 browns Coach?)

Here she is soaked. She was less parched than others and it took a few minutes to saturate

Water at flip time. It was darker looking IRL

Water after 20 mins before going down drain. The color near the drain is closer to how it looked than the lighter parts

She is now outside drying and looks kind of mahogany more than anything

Thank you Catbird, I ordered blackrock, since I'm doing it I will do it right. I shall post before pictures when the others arrive this afternoon.

Thanks for mentioning the video! Found it. I've seen this video on YouTube. Didn't realize it's by @dstalksalot!

Hahahaa! Loved reading this post over my morning coffee! As @Catbird9 said, your boss sounds like an interesting woman!
If she went to the trouble to get you these bags, sounds like she may actually care about her staff, even if she's a bit curmudgeonly. If so, you're very fortunate.

You mentioned she's breathing fire up your back. By that, I'm interpreting that you mean she's eager to see you wearing the bags.
If that's the case, thought it might be helpful to give you a sense how much turnaround time to expect on a rehab, from my perspective.

I find the turnaround time from dunk to wear is between 10 and 14 days.

Others here may have different timelines when rehabbing, and may have suggestions on how to speed things up!
(I'm much less experienced than many other rehabbers.)

I'm talking here about a simple rehab. Washing and conditioning only, and only using Leather CPR and Blackrock as conditioners.

THE IDEAL SCHEDULE

Day 1
Wash the bag

Day 2
CPR - First coat

Day 3
CPR - Second coat

Day 4
CPR - Third coat

Day 5
Blackrock - First coat

Day 6
Blackrock - Second coat

Day 7 - 9
Wait to make sure conditioner is dry

Day 10
Wear the bag

Note: Polish hardware before washing, and touch up later. Or polish hardware only after washing.

You folks are so helpful. I'm very grateful to you all for the tips. Special callouts to @Aku_no_Hana @Catbird9 @Lake Effect and @Ava_13579 for all the specific pointers. Can't wait to get started on this process with some of my pieces and share my progress with you all! Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

(P.S. I was rewatching Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy for the umpteenth time and (spoiler alert) when Ron and Veronica are having their brawl in the middle of the newsroom, Veronica pulls her mace canister from what seems to be a British Tan Stewardess Coach that's laying on the ground! I'll have to rewatch again to verify but it's fun to see them in the wild, especially in a vintage/70s context.)

Looks and sounds about right.
Wait until you dunk a lighter bag, like Putty or Chamois. They turn the color of, sorry, puke when they are dunked.
You bag will lighten closer to the pre dunk color, usually nicely enhanced by CPR or Leather Therapy applications.

Lol, on the main forum there is thread for posting movies and TV shows where Coach shows up. Now I will need to find that clip and watch lol.

Now, as I mentioned, the schedule above is the ideal schedule.

I find that the schedule often looks more like the one below. This one varies based on the bag.
Could be because I'm not a master rehabber, but it's why I say between 10 and 14 days, because I don't really expect to be able to wear the bag for about 14 days.

THE "WHAT ENDS UP HAPPENING" SCHEDULE

Day 1

Wash - Hangtag (if applicable)
Wash - Strap
Wash - Bag

Day 2
Leather CPR - Hangtag and strap - First coat
Leather CPR - Outside of bag - First coat

Day 3
Leather CPR - Hangtag and strap - Second coat
Leather CPR - Outside of bag - Second coat
Leather CPR - Inside of bag - First coat

Day 4
Leather CPR - Hangtag and strap - Third coat
Leather CPR - Outside of bag - Third coat
Leather CPR - Inside of bag - Second coat

Day 5
Leather CPR - Inside of bag - Third coat
Leather CPR - Inside pockets (leather only, not suede) - First coat

Day 6
Leather CPR - Inside pockets (leather only, not suede) - Second coat

Day 7
Leather CPR - Outside of bag - If any areas still seem dry, I add a bit of CPR to those spots
Leather CPR - Inside pockets (leather only, not suede) - Third coat

Day 8
Blackrock - Hangtag and strap - First coat
Blackrock - Outside of bag - First coat

Day 9
Blackrock - Hangtag and strap - Second coat
Blackrock - Outside of bag - Second coat

Day 10 - 13
Wait to make sure conditioner is dry

Day 14
Wear the bag

Note:
Wanted to mention why, in the schedule above, the conditioning is staggered (i.e. outside of bag, inside of bag, and leather inside pockets).
Before the leather is conditioned, it can be stiff.
To access the inside of the bag, and the leather inside the pockets, often the leather has to be bent.
For example, if the bag has a flap, the flap will need to be bent, to get to the inside of the bag.
Which is why I find that I wait for most of the bag to be conditioned before trying to apply conditioner to those areas.
It's ideal to apply conditioner while leather is slightly damp, so it would be nice to do these areas a bit earlier.
Though sometimes they are still very slightly damp by the time they're conditioned.
I find that generally, the first area of the bag to become dry is the outside of the bag, the second area to become dry is the inside, and the third area to become dry is the insides of the pockets.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend so far!

Planning to dunk a Manor this weekend.
I'm going to refer to catalog images, to shape the bag.

If anyone has catalog images of the Manor handy, I'd love to please see them!

I already have the two images below. If necessary, I'll just use these.
Wanted to reach out here first, in case anyone has more images, to get a better sense of the intended shape.

(I've only ever seen Manor bags with 1995 and 1996 creeds, so not holding my breath; I'm assuming the Manor was shown in relatively few catalogs.)
