I’m a bit annoyed. What else is new lol Purchased a Chelsea Field Bag from eBay and appeared to be in great condition and was listed as “clean inside and out with no issues great condition” I’m paraphrasing but pretty accurate to the description. Just received and the interior has pen marks (and small bits of debris). I’m awaiting comment from the seller as this was not disclosed. The exterior is in very good condition except for a small scrape that I think could just be dirt but will probably buff out with some moisturizer.

I’ve tried searching this thread for cleaning interior pen marks but can only find info about pen marks on exteriors. Could be me not searching correctly lol sorry! I did see “tuff stuff” upholstery cleaner mentioned recently.

Any advice on how to clean up this satiny interior? I feel partially responsible here as a full pic of the interior was not shown in the listing and I trusted the seller which was my mistake. I should have asked for a pic but they should have disclosed. Thanks!!!

I usually pull the lining out and scrub it down with Tide or Dawn. Before you do that use 91% Isopropyl Alchol and a toothbrush to take out the ink stains. I just dip the toothbrush in the bottle and then scrub the ink. It disappears like magic. I was terrified the first time I did it but it works like a charm and does not leave a stain or mark!

Acetone or alcohol work like magic on ink. Don't try to wash first. I find acetone works a little better, but you have to make sure it is pure acetone, not fingernail polish remover that has added ingredients. After that, just wash and rinse the lining. I just use my dishwashing liquid.

I finally scored a cheap Rambler's Legacy and in a pretty color, too!! Ohmygosh I'm so excited! Do you guys think it'll clean up well? There are some rips on the strap that will need to be fixed. This will definitely be the most challenging rehab I've ever attempted. I hope I will have some stunning reveal pics to show you!

I have the same bag! Mine was one of my very first vintage purchases, and it was in perfect condition. The leather is super soft. I love the nickel hardware. I can't get a picture that shows how gorgeous this bag really is.

Yay! Twins!! That is a STUNNING bag! Gorgeous color with the nickel hardware.

I actually gasped out loud when I saw this bag on eBay this morning. I think that's a good sign I've found The One. Even better is that the seller accepted my low offer, I got it for $30!

I found a bag that I was excited to get too, but it smells like cigarettes. It’s looks new too! Why...oh...why [emoji52] I hate leaving bad feedback though, plus it was only $30. But the smell ugh [emoji58]

I'm sorry your bag stinks! I have one like that too. Smell is very important and should most definitely be included in the description. Especially cigarette smoke. Yuck.

My experience with ink marks, use TuffStuff, you can purchase from amazon. Works wonder on ink marks on fabric..I have got a lot of ink out using it.

Thanks so much! I have it airing out now. It was a beautiful green prairie bag too! I’ll leave it air out for a while and see what happens. I’m going to get some charcoal eventually but it just ruined my enthusiasm for a bit.

Thanks everyone for your comments! I’m going to try acetone as I have straight 100% acetone already. It removes nail polish so much faster than polish remover [emoji1]

The seller responded “sorry for the inconvenience ask eBay for a return.” Lol Lesson learned always get a good pic of the interior even if listed as clean!

Anyway lol I really love the style of the bag! So not that big of a deal [emoji16]

It might look worse now than before. I understand that this can happen with reds/pinks. It bled so much it looked like a bloodbath and now it is blotchy. I have used a couple of coats of leather cpr on it. Do I just finish up with blackrock and call it as good as it gets or are there other things I should try ?

I'm curious as to how your Bleecker duffle eventually turned out. Did the color ever even out?

I just finished re-doing an earlier rehab. It was an easy job but I am really happy with the results and very pleased that I decided to repeat the rehab!

About 4 years ago I found a great buy on Craigslist, for $80 I got a Bleecker Legacy Flap Bag 11419 B4 IK and the matching Bleecker Checkbook Wallet 41549 B4 IK, made in 2007 - so not vintage. The color of the bag and wallet were Ink and they had tattersall lining - a big favorite of mine!

The Ink color is kind of a dark blue gray and quite pretty, but not easy to photograph.

They were in good shape, they were a bit scuffed and dirty and there were some spots on the lining and the checkbook cover was missing (it still is) but not bad and basically it was a great buy.

I prefer to give pre-owned bags a bath because I feel that they get really clean, but back then I was afraid to dunk a valuable bag with a pretty, light-colored lining. So I just surfaced cleaned the leather and the lining and tried to spot-clean the soil marks on the lining and then moisturized the leather - and they looked pretty good. But they looked better from a distance, if you know what I mean.

There were still a few soil marks and a yellow tinge on the lining and the wallet had some grubby marks of wear. I rarely wore the set and eventually even forgot that I owned them. I came across them recently and noticed that the leather was looking dry and scuffed again and the lining had gotten even more yellow and so I decided to do it right this time!

I gave the bag and wallet a long bath in Dawn and warm water and worked on the spots and made sure that the lining and everything was clean. Then I stuffed them with towels overnight to dry, removed the towels the next day and continued to let them dry. I moisturized with leather therapy oil, apple moisturizer, and finally black rocks. The hardware is antique brass so I just rubbed it gently with a polishing cloth.

I think they look great and I've decorated the bag with my gold Koi Fish Fob 6522 and I'm going to move right in and wear them this weekend!

Here are some pics, the first picture is the way they looked when I bought them off Craigslist 4 years ago and the rest of the photos are after the recent, repeat rehab. What a beautiful set IMO!

Katev, sorry if this is a silly question but did you also soak the strap when you dunked this Bleecker set? It seems like a strange type of leather to me, almost like cardboard. I'm wondering how it held up in the bath.

Hi everyone - I need some advice. I’m working on a cream(?) bag with lots of verdigris and what I think is paint on it. Here are some photos of the progress so far, it is currently drying with one coat of leather cpr... if I continue I will have to redunk since the green stuff just wouldn’t go away. So I’m wondering if I should continue or write this one off. So far the bag is not looking any better....

From my experience, verdigris does not come off, unless you bleach, since its white, it may benefit a bit. I cleaned my white pony Express bag with a little bleach, and even some oxiclean. White bags are different than other colored bags, so you can be a little more intense in your rehab.

Thanks for the tip, valv54!

I remember seeing your white pony express in the family shot you posted. It’s so white! Did you have to touch up the colour?

I did wash my bag with vinegar (it had 4 baths!) but I am eager to give bleach a try. How much would you suggest? Sorry I searched the forum and can’t seem to find the answer..

When I was cleaning the leather around the hardware with straight vinegar I noticed that it would cause a film of verdigris to form on the brass - ie when I put strips of paper towel soaked with vinegar through the loops, the verdigris in the suede did actually lighten, but then the brass would turn green and re-stain the suede.. is that normal?
