By the way, if any of you have similar problem with deeply cracked skin on your fingers, there's a new remedy that I highly recommend. Every winter I fight - and can't win - the same battle, and last week my dermatologist gave me a small tub of thick greasy substance called Aveeno Cracked Skin Relief Balm. He said you can use it as often as you want, but I only did that at nighttime since it's a heavy cream, more like an ointment. The cracks that stayed on my fingertips for months stopped getting deeper and bleeding after 1 night, skin got visibly smoother and stopped flaking after 2nd one, and after 3rd night they're barely visible - more like scar tissue around those areas, but not thick and scratchy like before. I can't believe how quickly they're gone, and months of using Neosporin before did nothing. Google shows that it's supposed to be available everywhere, mostly in large tubs, but on Target website I can see small 1 oz tubs like the one I got from my doctor only for $2.99. It's very concentrated and perfect as a trial size.

Can you give me a ballpark estimate how heavy is it, Kate? I'm trying to figure out whether I can carry one on my shoulder, and since I don't have any Italian bags, there's nothing to compare to....

Right now it is stuffed with towels and drying on my workbench so I can't weigh it, but I would guess 1.5 pounds at the most. Not heavy at all but the strap is skinny, so if you carry a lot of heavy stuff in your bags that might be a factor to consider.

For comparison I pulled out my Madison Copley bag 4414 in the color "Butter" because it is larger but of very similar construction. Empty with the strap the Copley weighs 1 lb and 12 oz and I think that the Gramercy bag would be a little lighter. Here's a picture of the 2 bags next to each other on my work table.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! Oh, that butter color of your Copley... How come I love - and want - them ALL when they are so different and sometimes have very little in common?!

Glad to help, sadly I share your addiction and I'm an enabler!

Here is a picture of the Butter Copley next to my Beechnut Gracie. The size of the Gramercy Top Handle would be between these 2 bags - bigger than the Gracie but smaller than the Copley.

I don't think that there is any easy way to fix that. Maybe you could take it to a shoe repair shop and ask if it could be removed and reattached correctly.

If you bought it at an online auction and the defect wasn't disclosed maybe you can return it? If you got it at a good price then you could just wear it as a "conversation piece".

Let us know what you decide to do.

Thanks for your suggestion. I think I may just leave as is. Was thrift store purchase.

There were a bunch of Madison bags released at this time with the upside down nameplates. They all went to the outlet but they didn't discount them further. Most people didn't seem to mind.

I doubt it can be removed without causing damage.
