I believe those are mold spots. They are permanent. If it were mine I would dunk (bathe bag in a tub of warm soapy water) and put vinegar in the rinse water to make sure all the mold is killed.

ETA: Read through this thread so you can see the process and what conditioners and tricks are recommended.

Oh mold! Yucks! Thank you so much. I definitely will read through. Thank you!

I think my brush is Kiwi. I probably got it at the grocery. My husband hates shopping at those places more than me. He erroneously thinks I like all kinds of shopping because I like clothes and purse shopping.

I also use a horsehair brush to buff my bags. It is a shoe brush but it isn't used for shoes. The trick with Black Rocks is to apply it very lightly to one area and then rub or brush it off quickly. If you put it on too heavily it gets sticky and it take a long time until it is absorbed (and a lot of rubbing!)

Kiwi huh? I’m thinking now that I have a brand, I can order it on amazon [emoji4] I was only going to look for one in person because some can be harder than others. Thanks a bunch for that!

Blackrocks is great when used correctly as I’ve seen so many times here, but I am not wiping it off fast enough. Honestly, I wasn’t wiping it off until I finished the whole bag. LOL Well now I know better. They weren’t sticky after about a week, but I knew I was doing something wrong.

I also messed up by not getting all the leather cpr off the metal. I ended up with a lot of green stuff that I had to get off with toothpaste. Unfortunately, I am allergic to everything, so toothpaste was my safest option. That was a huge lesson learned as well.

That’s what that is. I’ve been looking at a bag that had those spots but I didn’t pull the trigger because it had those spots everywhere. Does that process get rid of the spots too or does it just kill it to stop the spreading?

Oh shoot, that’s a little discouraging, but as long as I can kill them
, I don’t mind the spots so much. I wonder if a conditioner that darkens the leather a little would help hide them?
It should be safe to use after soaking, right?

Blackrocks will darken it but I’m not sure how much. I’ve seen some come out a wee bit darker and some come out much, much darker. I have noticed that the drier a bag is the lighter it can be. I have used leather CPR on a bag that went from really light and faded to looking almost almost brand new and nothing like it did when I first got it. My husband couldn’t believe it was the same bag. I did finish it off with blackrocks.

Oh wow!! So it’ll just depend on the bag. What is Blackrocks? I’m searchinh now through the thread to find how to do the soaking it’s a bit overwhelming, there’s so munch info. I’m so thankful for your help! I’ll get CPR (that’s a conditioner/ cleaner, right?)

I will attach a photo of blackrocks. It’s a cleaner, conditioner and protectant. The leather CPR you can get from TJ Maxx for 6.99.

It doesn't get rid of them but it is important to kill the mold. If the spots are really bad, it will change the texture of the leather. I had one bag where the spots were indented a little and harder than the surrounding leather.

Thanks for that information. Now I’m glad I held off buying that bag. Hopefully I come across another one like it. One of these days I hope to find a pony in decent condition that doesn’t break the bank [emoji4]

Thanks so much for the tip. I am definitely not wiping it off right away. I’ll do that next time. I still haven’t found a brush yet, I think my only option is the dreaded Walmart. It usually takes me pretty close to an act of god to go in there. Not my favorite place, but then I hate the grocery store too. I guess I’m gonna have to bite the bullet on that one  Although, I may be able to get my husband to go for me. He knows that place inside and out.
I just ordered a brush through ebay for $6.87 & free shipping and it is really nice. I used it on a bag I recently rehabbed.

Ok great! Can I soak it and treat it with vinegar if I don’t have a conditioner to finish it? Or should I wait until I get the leather CPR and Blackrock?
The spots are small so far and it’s still soft. I don’t see it on the inside.
