Hi all, I’m wondering exactly how you apply black rocks. I’m asking because it says to wipe the entire bag with a paper towel afterwards, but then there are paper towel fibers all over the bag and it’s hard to get it all off. What kind of paper towels are you using and do I wipes or just dust the surface with the paper towel? For buffing after black rocks, if you don’t have a brush what do you use? Microfiber maybe? I’m going out today finally and I really want to get the right product for the best outcome. Thanks so much [emoji4]

One other question, it’s about pen makes I tried an eraser and it worked on the thin marks but not the larger ones. Do you just leave it or do you paint over it?

Thanks so much again for all your help. It’s been really motivating seeing all these beautiful bags here after some TLC [emoji4]

My rehab project. Liked the look of the bag. It is about 17 inches wide and 11 tall. I was wondering if the spot on it was grease, and how best to go about cleaning the spot.

On the paper towel fibers: I use "Home Sense" paper towels from Ralph's. I've never had the fibers stick to the Blackrock. I think there are paper towels that are lesser quality and maybe that's the problem. The other possible cause might be applying too much Blackrock, or the bag wasn't completely dry before applying the Blackrock. In that case the Blackrock will be stickier.

On buffing after BR: I use a brush, but I've also used those little microfiber towels they sell at the Dollar Store. They're OK but I prefer the brush.

On ink marks, I'm not comfortable painting so I tend to just leave them alone.

If it's grease it might lighten up a lot with dawn or some other dish soap with degreasing properties. I think the ones with oxy in them can bleach so careful with those.

Thanks so much! I think you may be right about them not being totally dry. You have helped me out so much. Thanks again [emoji4]

Thanks! I guess I can use it for my boots as well. I'm in Canada so I will have to bite the bullet and get it for $20 from BBB! Right now the leather just look a little too matte.
Not sure where you are in Canada, but I just got a mailer for 20% off one item. If you don't have a coupon, and are not already on their mailing list, ask to be put on at checkout and you will be able to get a discount. That's how I bought my CPR, lol.

I had come across a bottle of Kiwi Scuff Magic (brown) in my husband's shoe polishing kit. Normally I wouldn't use any kind of shoe polish on a Coach bag, but I was curious to see how this would work. for touch-ups. It's a thin liquid that comes in a dauber-top bottle and "dries to a shine."

I found a bargain-priced Ergo Pocket Zip to practice on.

After dunking, reshaping, and conditioning with CPR, I daubed a little of the brown Kiwi liquid onto the end of a q-tip and applied it to the scuffed corners and piping edges around the zipper and handle where it was badly worn. I then rubbed a little conditioner on top of that to help it sink in. After it dried, a went over it again to add a little more color. Finally, 12 hrs later, a light coat of Blackrock.

AFTER:

It's still not perfect, but it's a decent improvement and I'm happy with the results.

Much improved! I wonder how they were carrying that bag to get wear there?

I use regular paper towels and don't get fibers. I put Blackrocks on a small area, then immediately wipe it off with the paper towel. I think the key is wiping it off quickly after you put it on. If you wait too long, the Blackrocks gets sticky and you'll get fibers from the paper.

You can buff with a soft cloth. I find the brush to be easier.

Thanks so much for the tip. I am definitely not wiping it off right away. I’ll do that next time. I still haven’t found a brush yet, I think my only option is the dreaded Walmart. It usually takes me pretty close to an act of god to go in there. Not my favorite place, but then I hate the grocery store too. I guess I’m gonna have to bite the bullet on that one :( Although, I may be able to get my husband to go for me. He knows that place inside and out.

I think my brush is Kiwi. I probably got it at the grocery. My husband hates shopping at those places more than me. He erroneously thinks I like all kinds of shopping because I like clothes and purse shopping.

@BeenBurned just authenticated this bag for me ;) thank you!!
Now, I need help. I’m in love with the bag, but have no idea how to restore it. It’s in pretty good shape other than the spots basically all over. They look like water stops, maybe. I bough saddle soap, and tried to clean it with it, some dirt came out but not the spots. I stopped as I’m afraid of ruining it.
Need expert help, as I have no clue how to care for this beauty. Thank you!!!

Hope the photos show the stains

I also use a horsehair brush to buff my bags. It is a shoe brush but it isn't used for shoes. The trick with Black Rocks is to apply it very lightly to one area and then rub or brush it off quickly. If you put it on too heavily it gets sticky and it take a long time until it is absorbed (and a lot of rubbing!)

I believe those are mold spots. They are permanent. If it were mine I would dunk (bathe bag in a tub of warm soapy water) and put vinegar in the rinse water to make sure all the mold is killed.

ETA: Read through this thread so you can see the process and what conditioners and tricks are recommended.
