Holy Grail is a super hard to find bag. Either they are an older bag, maybe it was made for a limited time in a style or color. It differs for each of us. Mine is the Pony Express for a true vintage style. Or a bag in a blue shade called Glacier during the 00’s. There was talk in another thread wondering if the Stewardess was made in orange.
That would be completely awesome if your collection includes a Pony.
We call those finds Purple Unicorn Bags :)

I would glue them, and then build up the corners to the right shape with puff paint. I like using leather cement because it remains flexible. You could also use the leather cement to build up the shape, then paint with acrylic but I find it is easier to get the shape I want with puff paint.
Can you tell me what leather cement is and where I can find it? Thanks!

I had dunked an ink stained bag before which didn't bleed in various stages of the bath. It was fine in the soapy bath for 30 min. It was still fine in the next two water rinse so I thought I was safe thinking the stain wasn't water soluble. I stuffed to reshape and dry and next morning the ink had shown up on the outside. I never dunked another inky bag again. Lesson learned.
Do you suggest never dunking a bag with an ink mark?

I called Coach Customer Service yesterday because I need a new brass turnlock. I told the Service Rep that it was for a vintage bag, a Willis 9927. She immediately responded that "they cannot send a turnlock to customers, and that I would have to send the bag in for repair, and there would be a charge."

I told her that "I have gotten turnlock kits sent to me for free in the past" and I asked her to check. While I was on hold I pulled up the Coach.com page for Repairs and found the information about turnlocks below.

When she came back on the line she apologized and told me that she "had learned something new!" She said that because the Willis is an older, unlined bag they will send out a turnlock kit at no charge, that I can use to make the repair myself.

She took my information and I quickly received an email confirmation that the no charge turnlock kit has been ordered for me. Now I just have to wait.

So don't let them tell you that they don't provide free turnlocks any longer!

THE TURNLOCK CLOSURE ON MY HANDBAG NEEDS REPLACING. IS THAT SOMETHING I CAN DO MYSELF?
In many cases we can send you a new turnlock with instructions for replacement.
Please call 1-866-262-2440 or email [email protected] for more information.
Thanks so much for the info!

Once I had a bag that had holes in all 4 corners. It wasn't vintage. I had bought it in a lot of bags and fully intended to just donate that one since it was in such bad shape. But then I decided to practice my rehabbing skills. When I was done I listed it at auction, and I was surprised when it got a lot of bids. It sold for around $50 and the buyer loved it!

I think the first bag that I repaired corners on with puff paint was a Sheridan. The puff paint was a perfect match. I think I could have added another coat and smoothed it out better.View attachment 4297901
This is the bag I experimented on and sold at auction. Two of the corners came out perfect.View attachment 4297903
How well does the puff paint hold up over time?

Hello All ... I am so enjoying this forum! I have only rehabbed two bags to date but I want to surprise my sister and rehab her Coach briefcase. What is the best way to fix the turnlock hole? Seeing the general wear on the bag, I was going to dunk it and perhaps use Leather Restore (British Tan) and Blackrocks on it. Any advice for the pen mark? Thanks in advance for your advice! I use Fiebings. I've seen it at some shoe repairs. You can also get it on Amazon and other places online. https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Guy-4336862886-Fiebings-Leathercraft/dp/B016U7V2TE

Ink is only a problem if it will spread when it gets wet. That usually only happens with huge blobs of ink. It is especially important if ink has spilled inside a bag. Dunking may make the ink spread to the exterior.

I haven't seen any deterioration. I've only been using it for about a year.

Dunking should really help. I dunked a briefcase. They are so heavy when wet! I don't see the pen mark. It is usually best to leave those alone. Sometimes you can use a bit of acrylic paint to blend over it. I guess I would fill the turnlock hole with leather cement. I don't know how well it would hold up long term as it is going to get pulled on.

Is there a good brand to use and how hard is it to match something like British Tan? Thanks for your expertise!

In case you are interested, here are before and after pictures and information about a vintage Lexington Briefcase that I rehabbed. It was black and dark bags are generally easier to rehab then lighter bags, but it did have condition issues; including damaged piping and verdigris.

I don't see a coach hangtag on your sister's briefcase, is it missing? You can call coach customer service and they will send a free replacement hangtag. They will ask the style number for the bag and the color of the bag and the hardware. They usually send a simple, metal hangtag that matches the hardware.

If you think that the turnlock is damaged, they will also send free turnlock replacement kits for vintage bags.

Good luck!

Oooppps! I should ask the authentic thread to check to be sure it is a real one before I get too excited. It looks real to me but I am far from an expert, only know it seems like my other ones. I was truly disappointed to have learned that there are vintage fakes, urgh!
