I like stuffing and wrapping the bag in plain newsprint after dunking and drying. Put it in a sealed airtight bag. Any residual odor transfers to the paper.

I have a vintage bag that I bought in 87 it's a pouch shoulder with drawstring. No stains but has lost its shape. Any recommendations?
Dunking improves most bags.

Hi,

I have a couple of questions. I got this Coach bag in and was wondering if it would be okay to dunk it and then use Leather CPR. I know the vintage ones can be but wasn't sure about the newer bags. And I found this silver coach tag in the zipper pocket. Does it go with this bag or a different one, does anyone know?

Thank you :)

I don't usually dunk newer or lined bags unless they are so dirty I would never carry them. I think the leather on your Carly looks great. I would pull out the lining to wash if necessary. Try to avoid getting the creed wet as they tend to swell and become hard to read. Then just condition the leather. I'm pretty sure it came with a matching leather hangtag, not the silver one.

So the person selling me this olive green Courier took it out of storage this morning to find water damage and an ink stain. I’m devastated.

Any advice would be appreciated. They at least greatly reduced the cost.

I have been able to remove or greatly diminish water stains with the standard dunking process.
I have had no success with ink spot removal. I tend to pass on ink spots if they will affect the aesthetics for me. Sorry : (

Agreed. The ink is permanent. It is likely to spread if it is dunked. Water stains may or not go away completely but are usually improved greatly by dunking.

How can someone list something and not realize that ink stain is there? That didn't happen by itself while it was sitting in storage.

If the leather has gotten wet then dried and brought out all the nasty stains, who knows what else is in store, buuuut! If you can get it cheap enough, I'd take the gamble. I alway bite off more then I can chew though, so maybe don't listen to me.

This gamble is only setting me back $15 shipped, so I think I’m gonna take my chances!

I had dunked an ink stained bag before which didn't bleed in various stages of the bath. It was fine in the soapy bath for 30 min. It was still fine in the next two water rinse so I thought I was safe thinking the stain wasn't water soluble. I stuffed to reshape and dry and next morning the ink had shown up on the outside. I never dunked another inky bag again. Lesson learned.
