Hello all! From my private inherited collection, such a cute Chrystie but she needs TLC. She came out of her bath but now I am not sure what to do. Leather CPR doesn't seem to absorb. Should I keep trying with the leather CPR? Any ideas on how to diminish the scratches on front near button closure? Should I try to dye this bag? Bottom corners are rough, I have no idea on how to improve this. All advice is appreciated! thank you in advance!
I think it was recolored, which may be why it's not absorbing conditioner. The inside suede on a bone or white bag should be much lighter. For example:

Thanks Lake Effect! what is a holy grail bag? maybe I have one! lol! You have a taupe Patti!! nice!! My Patti is black is good condition. I am so hard on bags and she's taking a beating. My fletcher is nice too but strap seems too small for me but size perfect. I have a rectangular nyc I should post to find out what it is. And a red, looks like Abbie but bigger. not sure. Thanks for your reply!!!
Holy Grail is a super hard to find bag. Either they are an older bag, maybe it was made for a limited time in a style or color. It differs for each of us. Mine is the Pony Express for a true vintage style. Or a bag in a blue shade called Glacier during the 00’s. There was talk in another thread wondering if the Stewardess was made in orange.
That would be completely awesome if your collection includes a Pony.

My tailor is pretty reasonable. He fixed a lining that separated from the leather for $8. I think my problem would be finding a replacement zipper to give to him. Is Talon zipper still available for sale?
The company still makes metal zippers, but to find a matching replacement zipper you'd have to get lucky on eBay or Etsy searching for "vintage brass talon zipper" in the length required.

I don't think I have a pony. that I'll have to look up to see what it is. Very cool sounding!!! Glacier? I'll research that! Stewardess in orange!!! mine are black and BT. I have what I thought was binocular but it has that turn lock so I think they call that a Nottingham, my private collection. But I saw one with a button closure at GW but thought it was too expensive 20$. I think I missed a chance there!! d'oh! lol

Thank you.

Repairing after makes sense then

I can take more photos if I need to.

I would glue them, and then build up the corners to the right shape with puff paint. I like using leather cement because it remains flexible. You could also use the leather cement to build up the shape, then paint with acrylic but I find it is easier to get the shape I want with puff paint.

Once I got a quote from a leather worker to replace a zipper on a basic bag. It was $85!
That doesn't surprise me actually. I have two bags that need new zippers and I can't decide what to do with them. Other than them needing new zippers there is little wrong with them. I wonder if I can sell them cheap on ebay. Anyway, I was looking at them and I realised the Coach creed pocket and the zipper and the edging on both bags are all sewn into each other. So they'd all have to come out and then be resewn. I think this would be pretty involved. Neither is special enough (to me anyway) to warrant that.

Yes, I think that was the problem. He would have to take the entire bag apart. He said the brass zipper would cost $35 by itself.
