Whitney satchel is done. I couldn't get the shaping perfect, but it's better than it was and cleaner. I was also able to lighten the pen marks on the front with a Mr. Clean eraser. I successfully used it dry on getting black marks off of my white Legacy Willis, so I wanted to see what it could do wetted. It lightened the marks and didn't remove any dye.View attachment 4132060 View attachment 4132061 View attachment 4132062
I don't think I would try it on a darker bag, though, too chicken  Below are before and after photos
It looks so good.

I also finished the Asheville today too. It came out a little View attachment 4132064 View attachment 4132065 darker than it went in the bath, but looks so much better than before. Below are before and after photos.
Beautiful. I love BT bags. They rehab so nicely.

I have a huge jug that I never use. It was the first conditioner I ever bought. Thanks for the tip!
Me too! I need to use it.

It helped me to first dunk a *test*bag. Way back when, I did dunk a Saddle and Patti, both second hand, in black. I wasn't too concerned about soap and water and conditioner. But because I only had Lexol conditioner, which is a light conditionder, it left some whitish streaking. Which I just kept wiping with a damp cloth and wound up just fine. But they were in good shape to start.
So when I found this thread, I read up on the products people used and made a decision to look for a couple of distressed bags and try my hand. I found two bags at a flea market, tobac convertable clutch and bt classic hobo for $10 each. The price was right and they were squashed, water stained with a whiff of mildew.
And I was not invested in the out come. I actually figued I could sell / use the hang tags and straps for replacements at that price. They actually came out great. And I am convinced doing it *just to see* made it alot of fun. I have used Leather Therapy Restorer/Condition and/or Leather CPR for after the bag has drained. I will look for an old post with my steps. Others have posted their process as well.
I got this '96 Willis for $17.50, and it is in shockingly good shape to start, but I would like to see the leather more supple and soft. I imagine whomever owned this before me probably had it stored away in a closet and barely used it- and at the same time, never conditioned it. I am going out of town for a conference, but I will try the dunking/cleaning process when I get home. Fingers crossed!

Well I'm very disappointed in my most recent ebay purchase, I finally found a stewardess, in brown, in decent shape...so I thought. It looks as though someone's cat used it at a scratching post there's fine little clusters of little scratches here and there....ok...nothing major. It also reeks of cigarettes, so just went out and got 2 gallons of white vinegar and she is now soaking for the third time, and the hangtag seems wierd even though it's a genuine bag. I'm a picky b when it comes to my bags so it's gunna bother me.

Have you contacted the seller? Cigarette smoke is a deal breaker for me with my asthma.
