I’m so excited with the progress of my rehab! Here are before and after bath and drying one day. Still needs to dry more before conditioning.

I’ve been considering adding embroidered patches to add some fun....I’ve been drooling over the Dark Fairytale collection but don’t want to pay full price for a novelty bag...hmmmmm.....?

I ended up having to use E6000 to attach my patches. The sticky stuff on the back didn’t hold well at all-especially after the conditioning and BlackRock.

Hello all - haven't posted here in a long time, but I've had great insights from all of you on rehabbing vintage Coach. I was noticing over on another subforum that @docride no longer recommends Blackrock at all, and I was wondering if you have a sticky or a particular post you recommend with the latest in rehabbing instructions and recommended products.

At one time, I've had any and all of the following: Leather CPR, Blackrock, Lexol cleaner and conditioner. And I want to make sure I'm following the accumulated wisdom of this clubhouse! No particular project in mind, but I'm thinking about looking for one.

Hi @GoStanford I've been around a little over a year, and I haven't seen a particular post or sticky. Alot of us have been posting our process with products used, with our after pics.
I tend to dabble in products I see others use, that may vay depending on the type and condition of the leather. I search and read through lots of posts  And I use Blackrock and plan to continue. Unless other gals here find something better. Which could happen. I am exploring a line from France called Saphir, based on a few posts here.
Let's see who else chimes in.

I have the Saphir delicate cream, which I've used on leathers I didn't want to darken and lambskin. It has an odor, though, that doesn't go away easily. Other than that, I like the glow it gives things, but it doesn't replace Blackrock for most bags for me. I've also used Skidmore's, which is made of beeswax. I liked it enough to use up the entire container. I don't think it added the glow that Blackrock does. I'm not really happy with Obenauf's LP. If I have a very dry bag, I'd rather use Leather Honey or mink oil.

I would be interested in why @docride no longer recommends Blackrock.

I am still using it sparingly as the final coat after Leather CPR. I have also used Skidmore's and I agree with whateve, it is nice but doesn't provide quite the same glow as Blackrock.

Both Skidmore's and Blackrock are waxy, and I suppose there might be some concern over breathability. Too much wax could clog the leather fibers; leather needs to breathe.

I haven't tried Obenauf's yet. There are two versions, the LP (leather preservative) and the oil. I read some interesting posts on the Reddit Male Fashion Advice subforum* about using Obenauf's LP (not the oil) on boots, to protect from extreme conditions like mud, rain and snow. One concern is that can reduce the natural color depth of the leather, flattening and darkening it. I have seen this happen to hiking boots that were treated with neatsfoot oil or Snoseal. I decided Obenauf's LP might not be appropriate for a handbag if I wanted it to develop a more natural patina with color variations. Obenauf's Oil, on the other hand, seems like it might be OK. It's on my list of things to try.

I've used those, Cadillac Cleaner (which is somewhere between Lexol and Leather CPR, but does a good job of softening) and Leather Therapy. Leather CPR is the best all -around conditioner. Leather Therapy is very oily and good for very dry bags. Cadillac can be used on vachetta leather, so it has special uses. Again, it is good for something that is too stiff. Lexol is OK as a first coat and is good for maintenance. I use Blackrock to finish off every bag. Hope this helps.
