Thanks for the idea, whateve. This will work until I can figure out what to do. I kind of feel guilty pirating the strap from the “new” purse. I’d really rather just get the original strap fixed but will have to save up my allowance.
I know what you mean. I've pirated straps from non-Coach bags and then donated the bags sans strap, and that makes me feel guilty. I'd feel bad stealing parts from a Coach.

OK i washed my Gigi in the washer with dishwashing soap, it seemed to work well.

How long wil it take to dry. it's rather water logged right now. ANd then, do I need to put leather conditioin on it.

Thanks

My aunt handed down a Coach Willis 1999 which was authenticated by whateve. I need help in figuring out how to go about restoring the bag. This is my first vintage bag (with memories) and don't wat to ruin it. It smells a little musty, has quite a few scuff marks, front two corners show fading/discolouration and there are 4 discoloured spots on the back pocket. There is a white stain inside and a white fingerprint mark. The leather seems dry and wrinkled, but I am no expert. The edges on the strap look frayed and need help too. I have attached pictures for reference. So, how do I

1) Clean or wash the bag ? I have read a few posts on threads where they have soaked and dried, is it advisable for my bag ?

2) What conditioners have you used successfully for such bags ? I have a Cadillac Cleaner and Conditioner
You think conditioning should take care of the the scuff marks and discolouration?

3) What to use if the white stains on the inside don't come off on washing ?

4) How many of you have dyed such bags successfully and what type/brands have you used ? I don't know if I will do this step but would like to have information.

Phew...thank you for your help ladies!

I don't think your bag needs dyeing. Wash it in the sink with dish soap like Dawn. Completely immerse the bag in soapy water and let it soak for about 15 minutes. You can scrub gently with a soft brush or cloth. You can be more vigorous on the suede inside. Some scrubbing should help with that white mark on the inside. Rinse thoroughly, towel dry, and then stuff loosely to form it into the shape you want when it dries.

Cadillac is a good conditioner, but I think you might need more. I usually use Leather CPR and Blackrock on most rehabs. Several coats.

I second @whateve's post. I've rehabbed a Willis just like that, and it should clean up nicely. I used Leather CPR on mine and then finished with Blackrocks. You shouldn't need to dye the bag. If the corners are still a little faded or there is a worn spot after you have bathed and conditioned, I've had great success spot dying those areas on black bags with Kiwi Leather Dye.

I have seen a few videos where people spot dyed their Coach Vintage using Kiwi Leather Dye. How long has it been since you dyed those bags ? Have you noticed any cracking or peeling ? Changes in leather ?

I don't use dye. I just mix a bit of acrylic paint or fabric paint with conditioner and apply it to the edges. I feel it is safer. It can be removed easily if you don't like the way it looks, but after a few days it becomes permanent.

No, I haven't noticed any issues. I only used a very small amount of dye in a few spots. It wasn't enough to make a difference to the leather.
