It's a pre-creed Dinky (or Penny? I always get confused. I've seen interchangeable names, particularly on Sacs Magnifiques site.) with eyelets for removable strap, which is, I guess, from the late 60s. I expect it to stay shaggy, just wanted the suede look a bit more well-groomed and uniform.

Thanks again, whateve!
Wow! Yeah take good care of that! No washer for that baby. But a bath might do her wonders. I think the Dinky is the smaller one with sewn on straps, not much bigger than a large wallet, while the Penny has detachable straps and is slightly bigger.

You're welcome! Congratulations! It sounds like a Dinky. I don't think there was a style called Penny until much, much later.

Something mild and not a lot of it. Detergent tends to be very drying. You want something with as neutral a ph as possible. If you use detergent, you might want to add vinegar.

I'll just use Dawn. I don't really buy brand name anything - besides clothes, bags, and Apple products - but I do like Dawn. I think it's the cleaning seabirds from oil spills that get me.

You guys!!!!! Look what I scored at the Nashville Flea Market today for $14! It’s in 7/10 condition but nothing that can’t be easily remedied.

Hi, all! I’ve run into a problem with this bag. The strap is in horrible condition. I figured it would cost as much to repair it as it would to buy another bag and scavenge the strap. So I bought another bag (a 9059) for $15 and of course, the eyelet holes are too small to work with this bag. :( The “new” strap is not as wide and not as long but if the holes were large enough, it would work. So my question is this: would you try to replace the eyelets with larger ones, pay to fix the original strap, or try to scavenge from yet another bag?

I would probably scavenge another bag. What style is it?

It’s a 9085. The strap stitching has come loose on both sides at the middle and has been chewed by an animal on one end. I think a leather shop could fix it but I was trying to go a less expensive route.

I tried the strap from one of my Patricia’s Legacy bags and the holes are great but the strap is waaaayyy too long.

Hmm, I think it would hard to find a strap the right length. 9085 straps are shorter than most. Maybe you'll have to get it repaired or replace the grommets on the new one. Is that something you could do yourself? Can you double up the Pat's strap?

The original strap is 35.5” long and this is what it looks like in place:

The “new strap is 26.25” long and this is what it looks like in the buckle:

The Patricia’s Legacy is 50.25” long. I could double it but what happens to the prong thingy on the other buckle? Does it just stick out?

Also, another bummer is my PL has silver hardware (and eyelets) and the 9085 is brass...doh!!

I usually push it down flat with the buckle. Sometimes it is hard pushing two layers of strap through the same buckle.
