We've done blanket chests and wardrobe cabinets. This old timer was built in 1780 and renovated in the '30s. It's hard to believe that 2 closets is actually a lot for a tiny farm house in the old days.

Maybe you will find a house with a nice big walk in closet with windowed cabinets for the collection.
Ours in not that old 1860 - 1880 and we've been renovating it for the past 20 years, but I think I'm ready for something a little more contemporary. The display cabinet is a great idea and would cut down on dust.

Thank you!! I can't wait to see your brown bucket and your 'slouch' fix!! I've already cleared a space in my closet for these bags. I live in a really really old house and it has only 2 closets. Maybe I can nest some of the bags. Abbie would certainly fit inside zippy.

The slouch fix is still a work-in-progress...needs a little more engineering/adjusting...but coming soon.

Can't wait to see red Abbie. Cognac Abbie from over here sends love.

2nd round of Blackrocks has made her glow...thanks for Cognac Abbie love :)

Well I decided to stop by the shop today. I looked at the Willis again and it really was in bad shape, Ltd. Of color loss and wear on the edges and it was stored terribly and has a big wear spot on the back.

But, I didn't leave empty handed. I bought a nearly new Court for the same price. It's brown and my 4th brown Coach...but it's so cute and it's complete and no wrinkles in the top handle like my black Court. I think I will enjoy this little bag a lot.

I have a BT Court bag that I absolutely love...works (and holds my stuff) better than a Willis. I think yours will rehab well...standing by to see results!

Good evening everyone!! Rehab #3, zip top shopper is finally finished. Between shoveling through most of the last month, looooong work hours and a nasty virus, I didn't think I'd ever get it done.

Does any one have any suggestions on storing bags? I'm using white pillow cases as covers, but I'm unsure if I should put something inside to prevent slouching.

Beautiful job, beautiful bag!
I have the same question about storing bags. I have been using whatever I have spare of--craft paper, tissue paper, even all those plastic newspaper sleeve bags (is plastic not a good idea?). Important to use dust bags? Then you have to look inside to see what you are selecting.

I stuff all of my bags that aren't flat bags. I have found plain towels work best for me, because I can use one or 2 various sized towels and it's easy to pull them out to use the bag.

I have a question about products, not rehab related but I thought I'd ask here as you ladies seem familiar w/ leather care. I have 2 light colored smooth leather bags (new) and I'm not sure whether I should use Leather CPR or just use Blackrocks to protect them from marks/color transfer.

I use Apple Guarde Rain & Stain Repellent to protect my new bags. Leather CPR is a cleaner/conditioner. I don't think it has protective qualities necessarily. Blackrocks is also a cleaner/conditioner and has some protective qualities, but I don't typically use it on new bags to protect them. Apple Guarde is a spray that will provide stain protection and water protection. Others may also have suggestions.

This is my 1998 Soho Buckle Bag #4157 from Goodwill for $17.49 with a coupon...in very good condition, just needing some re-shaping. Befor pics are here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-855067-27.html#post26261809

Nothing out of the ordinary rehab-wise: Warm bath with Dawn, rinse and stuff. Leather CPR 2X a day apart, then Blackrocks 2X, also a day apart. Brushed to a glow with a horsehair blend brush.

Then to fix the slouch...I figured I could fashion a nice, fairly stiff placemat into a liner. Bought 4 of these (with Pier 1 stickers still on them) at Goodwill Bargain Barn for $.25 each. I made a paper pattern and started cutting and piecing it together...notice the stripes running different directions. This is still a work-in-progress, as I don’t think it’s quite long enough. The idea is for it to fit behind the pocket and tuck up under the tiny flap on the front of the bag. Problem is, it keeps popping out on the front. I’m guessing it wants to be just a bit longer. I can do that, as it’s pieced anyway. Double-faced fabric fusion tap holds really well...and it’s tough to take apart. I’ve already made one adjustment, just need to do it again. The tape is hard to remove, but Goo Gone did it. CAUTION: Work in a really well ventilated place if you use Goo Gone! I think this is a sound idea...just need a little more adjusting!

Interesting note...the wayback machine shows this bag with the sides tucked in (http://web.archive.org/web/19970509010543/http://www.coach.com/product/index.html)...I have NO IDEA how they managed that!

That is going to look beautiful with a little TLC! I've had pretty good luck at my local Unique Thrift/Value Village, but I stay away from the bags they separate for behind the counter (overpriced!) and look for what I guess they consider less-worthy and put out on the floor. As noted by another rehabber, however, most are navy or black so I have to stop with those unless there is a style I really want.

Nothing remarkable here...just a basic rehab like the brown Bucket Bag I just posted...this one was in excellent shape to start with...now looking even better!
Both are quite beautiful, Joodlz! And your 'fix' for the slouch is so clever.

Joodlz - I think it's lovely!

I posted this a week or so ago on the "seen in the wild" thread, but seeing your photos, I just had to post it again! Your bag looks so much nicer than the one I mention here:

Late last week, I had occasion to give a presentation before the board of directors of a firm I have been courting.

Before the meeting started, everyone was milling around, chatting. I happened to notice that one of the board members, a woman I had never met before, was carrying a cute little vintage Coach bag.

I walked up to her and said, "Oooh - a red Abbie! I love it! It's adorable!" The woman looked at me as if I were speaking Greek, then said, "What?"

"Your purse!" I said. "It's an Abbie, isn't it? I love vintage Coach."

She looked down at her own purse with disdain. "This?" she said. "I have no idea. It's some old piece of cr** my sister gave me for Christmas. She said she got it on eBay. I'm only using it because I'm wearing red today."

:D

Hi all,
I've finished my second rehab. This is a convertible clutch that I would have passed up at the thrift because it looked faded and worn, and the inside was pretty dirty. However my daughter insisted and I'm glad because while getting it authenticated over on the other thread I discovered it is actually gray not faded navy! I don't see many of the flannel gray bags.

Anyway, I bathed her and after Apple Leather Care didn't do much, I bought Leather CPR (love that product!) and did 2 or 3 treatments of that, finishing with one coat of Blackrocks.

She looks so much better, but I find if I even lightly scratch the surface it leaves a mark (you can see one or two on the front). Maybe that is because of the quality of that soft leather?

My bigger question is the sides. See how it collapses in? I stuffed the bag when drying but it is still soft.

Also, the edges aren't terribly worn but do you think it is enough that I should use something to improve the look (there is a worn spot by the clip loop, too), like edge coat or acrylic paint?

TIA for your advice!

P.S. This is the bag with the melted clip loop! And the zipper on the inside pocket was so corroded that even after I cleaned the verdigris off, I can't zip it closed without fear of breaking the zipper.
