Either but if the leather is old and needs tlc I'm more likely to moisturize the edges after a day or so while the rest is damp
Both! Moisturize while damp, then again when dry and, depending on how dry the bag feels, again. Wait a day between applications and buff each time.
Thanks so much, I've been following this thread for quite sometime and I may try on a goodwill bag first. I have my father's portfolio which is precious to me but probably trash to anyone else that I really want to restore.

Girl, I give you credit. I would have taken one look at those "holes" and started a search for *red handbag replacement strap*!!
@kdtexas You have given me a great idea though! I am in the process of thinking about custom ordering a strap for my new to me Bancroft. It's BT. I was thinking of one in a slightly lighter tan, hand tooled with maybe a few painted flowers or leaves. Now I will think about choosing width and design so I could use it with say a red , green, navy Willis, Station, etc.
@dgphoto yes, those holes were crazy...looked like a five year old did it. Thanks @Lake Effect - I got the hole punch this morning and tried it on the first mangled one...Problem is the "holes" were originally done in such a way that they "slit" the leather on the backside of strap, so the hole gets bigger. ; ( I've picked out the puff paint and am back to painting with conditioner and acrylic. May try to live with it for a while (or look at ordering a new strap!) I LOVE the idea of a pretty hand tooled strap. Please post pictures if you get one.
Yes, I will post it most certainly. I have seen a couple of leather craftsmen on Etsy that make some beautiful items. They are giving me ideas. I am also going to craft show on Saturday and will keep my eye out for ideas.

I have the same one in brown. Catbird called it a compact pouch, I believe? “If it measures about 7.5" x 8" it's an authentic Compact Pouch, #9620.”
