Did you miss "nubuc is the devil" post?? Lol! Don't fight a losing battle! I'm not sure you can do anything about the cracks unless you find some matching nubuc to fix/patch or what not to try* (lol) to repair it. Good luck!
Okay. So I saw the post, then came upon Satan's handbag in my local thrift store and decided to ignore everyone's warnings and bring her home. In my defence, I paid the equivalent of about 12.00 - which some may argue is still too much, LOL.

So, I like the shape and it's pretty soft after I coated it in Leather Honey and took 400 grit sandpaper to it
But the colour is still dingy and I ripped the nubuck trying to wedge needle-nosed pliers into some twisted hardware ( which I also failed to fix.)

Still...did i I mention the 12.00 ? 15062944978371282622009.jpg 15062946162792031204079.jpg

What does sanding to the nubuc? Sorry about your $12 that you'll never get back.

You could pay me $120 to take the Nubuc off your hands and still. Nope.
Sorry. I got nothing. Give up now.

I watched a Youtube tutorial with a guy who cleaned a nubuck couch and he basically sanded it. It brings the nappe back up. Totally works! He used 400 and 600 grit and a light touch. I would link the video but I don't think it's allowed on TPF. It also evens out stains. It worked better than Oxyclean and a trip through the washer; which I tried first. The guy doing the demo said you can improve the look, but not completely get rid of discoloration.

@nursebetty
I will, pardon the pun, lol, play the Debil's advocate here. I commend you for your $12 nubuc experience. Yes I do! So many of us have to succomb to the *fill in the blank* experience! Be it suede, nubuc, split piping, shoe polish, chewed dowel, funky stains, torn handles, you name it (no, I have not been drinking and I am sure my earlier caffeine loading has worked itself out).
Lol, it is our God given right as rehabbers to buy the bag we have been warned about! Even the , words fail me, the sky blue dyed Dooney bag on WYRTB.
One of the funniest episodes of CarTalk I ever listened to was a woman who wanted the brothers to talk her husband out of buying this old car and fixing it up. The two brothers said absolutely not. It was his God given right to buy a heap and have it sitting in the garage for 12 years while he poured endless money into it.
So good for you, better to spend $12 fearlessly on nubuc and look at it and say, yeah this isn't happening. Instead of, I really wanted a stab at that nubuc! And I'll never know! Slow clap.
Okay, enough from me. I have 4 loads of laundry to fold, put away! Night all ; )

You put leather honey on nubuc? Wouldn't that destroy the surface? I have lightly sanded nubuc. Be careful about brown sandpaper. Sometimes it transfers color. I've had good luck with a sanding block. It only helps with light surface dirt. Anything imbedded in the leather isn't going to come out from sanding.

Leather Honey claims to be fine for nubuck, not suede.
That's a good too about coloured sandpaper. I was using the beige stuff but have black sheets as well. I wouldn't have known not to use them!

Have you tried Barkeeper's Friend liquid cleaner on the hardware? I've good success with that on my hardware.

I also just bought Bich's Tear Mender for some fabric repairs I need to do. Haven't tried it yet but if might work on your seam problems since it would need to be more flexible. E6000 might work too but might be more obvious if it really gets into the nubuck.

As far as nubuck, I figure anything is worth a try at least once...especially at the right price!

Hello, it's somewhat off topic, but does anyone here have an experience rehabbing a Cashin for Meyers bag? Looks very similar to Coach - thick leather, unlined, turnlocks, kisslock purse on the back, the whole thing. I am thinking of giving it a bath and wondering how the leather will react to that. I've already read Katev's saga of her success with the burgundy bag, so I am wondering if there are more stories, happy or otherwise.

Thanks a lot!
