Thanks but I don't deserve the praise, that rehab was done by Momtok!

I believe that your bag is black or navy, correct? When you wash and condition the bag it will darken a little and that will help minimize the green stain. But in your photos it looked like there was verdigris on the clips too? You will need to clean them well to avoid staining the leather in those areas.

Verdigris stains are hard to remove and I am not an expert, but the link below contains info about a bag that I worked that was afflicted with green gunk!

The bag is black.

And you're right about the verdigris. After reading your post I checked closer and there is a small amount on the clips and quite a bit around the circle of brass that holds the clip to close the bag. It's going to be tough cleaning that without getting it on the leather.

I'm going to take a look at the link you posted then go get my supplies for my rehab later on.

I'm still not sure of which conditioner to use, though. From reading the forums it seems as if Lexol works best and I see it's on ebay for under $10.00 for 200 ml but I'm really intrigued by some of the equestrian products like Oakwood.

Maybe it depends on the type of leather you're going to condition?

I'm so confused. :confused1:

The type of leather you are conditioning can make a big difference. For a glove-tanned bag like your pocket bag I tend to use Leather CPR or Apple Conditioner.

I prefer the thinner Lexol for textured or pebbled leather bags. If your bag has a lot of scuffs and/or uneven coloration then adding Blackrocks to your rehab will be very helpful. It took awhile for blackrocks to become a favorite because I was applying it too heavily, but does a great when you would like to darken the leather a little and camouflage the flaws!

At the link below you will find info about the products that I use most frequently but other TPFers have their favorites that I have not tried yet.

Thanks, she is drying nicely. I had always hoped to find one of the larger Cashin totes, but I was thrilled when I found this tiny beauty for only 2 bucks! I wonder how much she cost back in the early 1960s?

I can't wait for after pics!

they are hard to find under $100 but I too want the double kisslock with chains. Love that bag!! They usually are from $250 to $500 though for a nice one

Yeah I think I will be dreaming for a loooooooong time! I can't afford what they go for in good condition :( My best bet is to find one in bad shape in a thrift store and rehab it LOL!

Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this is the correct thread but I'm in need of cleaning instructions please. How do you clean fabric bags? Is there something I can buy of do I just dunk it in soapy water? I just bought this poppy swingpack and want to know how to take care of it. I also have other bags with similar fabrics that I want to clean but I don't know how :( thank you!

Is the bag still new and clean or has it already been soiled? I use Coach jacquard fabric cleaner that I bought at the Coach boutique store to spot-clean fabric bags, or you can try gently sponging with a damp cloth and mild soap. I have also heard of using non-alcohol baby wipes but I haven't tried that myself.

If the bag is new (or after you clean it) you might want to try and spray it with a protective spray to protect it from soil and damage in the future. Apple Rain Garde is a recommended product. You need to spray it in a well-ventilated area (and wear rubber gloves because it can melt your nail polish!) I do 2 applications and let it dry for a few hours or overnight in between.

It is always wise to first spot-test a new product by applying it in a small, obscure area and letting it dry completely before spraying it all over your bag. Good luck!

Does anyone know what product stops dye from rubbing off a purse? That burgundy stewardess I'm rehabbing is looking great except it's still shedding color when I rub it, even with my bare hands. I wonder if I spray it with apple rain repellent if it'll put a layer around the leather. If it keeps rain out, it should keep dye in?! Any thoughts rehabbers?? Product suggestions? I looked it up and I guess I need a sealant(?) but I have no clue what that is..... Or where to buy it....

I don't know, maybe take it to a cobbler and ask for advice from an expert? You can also search the entire TPF forum, not just coach, to find a wider range of experience, good luck!

my question about sealant would be ... do you have to do all the rehabbing possible on your bag before you seal it, because once sealed, you can't do more to the leather? I'm not sure of the answer to this, so definitely talk to a leather professional before sealing it!!

Okay here are the afters. She came out such a pretty rich color! This style is also deceptively roomy. Thankfully she didn't smell like an "old baseball glove" as the seller had described. She also responded really well to conditioning and I love the contrasting color of the piping. Not bad for about $28 shipped!

wow, I just realized this bag has lining? or is it a bag organizer inside?...

never mind..just went back and looked and realize it's an organizer...what kind? I like it a lot!

It is the Purse to go organizer in large from PurseBling. It's great--I originally got it for my LV Noe which is a black hole inside but it works great in the Rambler as well as gives it a bit of structure/shape.
