This is my favorite vintage/rehabbed find! It's a navy leather top handle pouch from the 80's. Very roomy!

My latest rehab project was a cute bag I picked up for just $4 at the Goodwill store. The bag was attractive and in good shape but it has a monogram (which is probably why it was priced so cheaply.)

I wasn't too sure how I felt about the monogram but I bought it anyway just because I enjoy fixing up vintage bags - and because it looked like an easy, cheap project.

Hyacinth authenticated it as a Blazer Bag from the 1980s. It came out very nice and (as expected) it didn't need much work. Here are a few before pics.

Here are the after pics. I'll have to try and think of someone I know with the initials C.A.R.!

I have a Willis bag I am going to clean up a bit and apply Apple conditioner after.

Is it safe to give this bag a bath since it has the wooden insert in it?

I've given baths to 2 willis bags (brown and black) and I didn't have any problems. I know that there are concerns about color-loss but that hasn't been an issue for me; but I mostly work on darker colored bags, black, brown, gray, navy.

Because I pick them up cheap at thrift stores and garage sales and they are often very dirty, I feel better giving them a good bath and making sure that they are clean before I put my stuff in them and carry them.

I also find that giving them a bath helps with reshaping the bag. They are sometimes all droopy and out of shape. After I wash them I stuff them with old towels and reshape them. I take the towels out after about a day to continue the drying process but they hold their shape very well.

.

And because I see that I never actually posted this link into this thread ...

Link --- http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/two-70s-80s-made-nyc-bags-going-through-658823.html

It contains lots and lots and lots of pictures, documenting a black, made in NYC, Coach Basic bag, going through an entire bath, rinse, drying, and conditioning. Including pics of the bath itself.

I had been requested to document the process, and never took so many pics of one bag in my life. ;) But it should put to rest any last fears about bathing this vintage leather. ;)

Below are links to before and after pics of a black willis that survived a bath with no ill effects; click on the thumbnail pics to enlarge.

Please share before and after pics of your Willis, we love seeing new rehabs!
