I picked up a MFF tan framed medium wallet (french purse) at the Goodwill yesterday. It is in pretty good shape except for a couple of ink marks on the inside. But the khaki sig lining on the inside the coin purse has a greenish cast. I am not sure if this is due to vergigris - if copper coins were lef inside it for a long time, or if it has mold? It doesn't smell moldy but it is a bit musty so it is hard to tell.

You can see what I mean in the last pic at the authentication thread below. What do you think has caused that green color and what would you do to clean it? It only cost $3 so I can take chances without feeling guilty! Thanks!

Hello coach ladies, long time no see. Nothing to rehab yet, other than a bleecker duffle of mine that needs love. However, I'm on the hunt for a made in the us m/l tan station bag and chances are it'll need a rehabbing so I'll be around ;)

I think it is copper from pennies, but it looks pretty bright. The inside of my old coin purse is green too. I haven't tried to clean it. Let me know if you are successful in cleaning it.

I have had older vintage Coach items and had the green sheen in the lining. I kinda figured it was the way it was made because the green was consistent throughout. Is yours?

The lining of the coin purse is greenish but the same lining is used thoughout the wallet, billfold, credit card slots, etc. and it is NOT green in those areas - just the coin purse.

The presumed story continues. (Don't you wish your "projects" could talk and share their stories of abuse?) If my story is ridiculous and boring, let me know and I'll request it deleted. If you like it, let me know.

The story goes.... "Rescuing Maggie"

Once upon a time a beautiful, young bag name Maggie sat center stage. People from all around came to admire her beauty. She shined under the spotlight and her sunny saffron color made everyone feel happier when they beheld her. Inside her heart was a hue of elegance, femininity, and grace as though her soul was made of lavendar satin.

Poor Maggie; one day a careless, hap-hazard young woman wandered by and was also struck by her beauty. She felt the suppleness of her leather and smelled the sincerity of her heart and stated to the caretaker. "This is the one I want. She will bring me joy ,envy of my friends, and will look amazing with my new jeans."

The young lady then offered caretaker and coupon and asked, "What do I need to do to make her mine?" Delighted, the young woman carried Maggie away to her home.

And....

Lovely Maggie was enjoyed for awhile, then the young woman began caring less and less about her. All her friends didn't seem to notice her saffron beauty any longer. Maggie found herself being tossed her and there. The worst day was at the movie theater. Maggie was horrified find herself, not in her own seat, or carefully protected on her best friend's lap, but sat on the floor! It was a dirty, sticky floor!

It is most likely intended to be that way. Great find!! $3. I wish I could find those deals. We don't have Good Will around here and I do check our second hand stores from time to time. How are you planning on removing the ink mark. I've tried denatured alcohol before before but it still leaves a faint mark. I have also had the experience of ruining the finish further.

Ooops! I misread your statement. If that's the case, I agree, it's probably pennies.

I've had some luck with Soilove and ink marks so I will try that first.

I can't remember how long to let the bag sit in it's bath
I don't think it matters that much. If it isn't really dirty and you are afraid of losing color or the bag has some stiffening that you are afraid might soften, then 5 minutes could be enough. Most of the time, I try to soak between 15 and 30 minutes. There are times I forgot I was soaking a bag and it sat there for hours without any bad consequences.

That is a huge help! you dont suppose the mediums I already own are similar? I know one of them is flexible-ish... even though it says hard, my nail can penetrate. Cant remember which one. I will do a test on something else, but your opinion would be great also on the differences from tube to tub? is there a difference in viscosity or just a matter of smaller vs. larger?

Sorry, I have NO experience with the tub types. I think your idea of testing is the best way to tell if these products are appropriate for your intended use. Good Luck...let us know.

I've had great success on Coach fabrics with Soilove. And I think your idea about green from pennies is probably right. If you use Soilove, make sure you rinse thoroughly...it's super soapy. Good Luck!
