Love your rehabs! Beautiful job on both. I'm a little jealous - I've never found a Stewardess...

Coach will send a turn lock kit for free, but sometimes you have to wait awhile to receive it. When you remove the old turn lock you will have scrub the green gunk out or it will spread to the new hardware.

I finished the Musette that I've been working on. I absolutely love it. It turned out so much better than I could have imagined when I started. It's a great size to carry as a briefcase/large purse for work. I thought it would be British Tan when I got it, but I was very wrong. It's a dark reddish brown tobacco color. (I'm guessing this is Tabac?)

Here are before and afters. I also blogged about it here: http://imwithleathercoach.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-british-tan-musette-that-wasnt.html

Beautiful! It's amazing that the color changed so much!

As my mom would say in her Long Island accent, THAT BAG IS GAWJUS!! :) Seriously, nice job! What a beautiful color!

amazing job, congratulations!

Hello, experts!
I have recently bought used Crosby Coach bag. Great bag, but when i touched it my fingers were colored black. The Seller said it is Meltonian polish, a very good polish and appropriate for Coach bags. I do not know what to do - i can not ware the bag - it colors hands and cloths. Will it come off? I would keep it if it were not a big problem. The seller will accept the return though.

Thank you!
Meltonian can be applied in a very specific way and become color stable. DocRide uses it on her Hermes bags and gives detailed instructions on how to use it in the Hermes Vintage Nightmares thread on this forum. I have used it a few times and my bags were fine, I can even wipe them down with a wet rag and get no color. Either they didn't use Meltonian or they didn't know how to use it.

Hi!
I am brand-new here, so please forgive much ignorance on my part!!

I am also a newbie to Coach, having only recently bought my first(s), and I have an
issue with one of them that I could really use some advice on, if anyone could please help...

My recent purchase is a previously-owned Gigi in Teal. The person I bought her from
seems very knowledgeable about all things Coach, and has given me some advice, but not knowing her personally, I thought it wise to solicit other opinions.

The problem my Gigi has is that- to me at least- she is fairly discolored in that most of the exterior of the bag has an obvious yellow cast to it. The trim pieces are not yellowed, making the trim and the rest of the bag so that they don't really match so great. Can anyone tell me what causes this yellowing? Is it normal "patina," was she left in the sun, etc? I especially wonder about sunlight because when you open the front pocket flaps, the leather that would be protected from the sun has not yellowed.

Any advice would be most welcome...should I try cleaning her, should I just accept this as normal aging and wear, did I bite off more than I can chew, etc????

Thanks so much, I look forward to your responses!

I had a Pond Legacy shoulder bag that had just started to do this. I think it is just what happens with this color, being that it is vachetta. I had read that you can't reverse it. I believe spraying with apple garde can prevent further yellowing.

An amazing transformation. great job! With all these great reveals on the Musette, I find myself considering one. Very dangerous.

I finally had a chance to work on some rehabs recently. Below are the after pics (with and without flash) of a Mahogany/Brass Stewardess 9525 (USA, 1995) that I got at Savers for $36 and a Black/SilverRambler's Legacy 9061 (Costa Rica, 1999) that I found at the Goodwill for $10.

I figured that they would be easy rehabs - and the Rambler was easy -but the Stewardess was harder than expected because the brass had verdigris(yuck!) I had to remove all the hardware that I could get off the bag and polish it well before replacing it, but I am happy with the results/

You can see the before pics at the links below.

Lovely rehabs as always. I need to find myself some easy rehabs. Definitely something without verdigris.

Really lovely! I don 't think it's Tabac, though. I have a basic bag that I bought new in the early 80s from Neiman Marcus that was Tabac (I remember because I thought it was funny since I'm a vehement anti-smoker). Anyway, I rehabbed it a few months ago and it doesn't have the reddish tone your bag has.

Take a look at these colors:

You are right. The Tabac looks much more brown. I'm thinking maybe Burgundy. Some of the old catalog pages I saw for it didn't show it coming in Burgundy, but maybe they made it in Burgundy for a time. It seems to have too much red in it to be Mahogany. In certain light, the red undertones really come out.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the kind words!

I had a question about using light colored bags like British Tan out in the rain. I noticed that it is raining quite a bit in my area recently and my black leather bags seem to be okay getting wet but the british tan bag (my first) I'm working on darkens easily upon contact with water. I was curious if I should be wary of water spots or if there's something I can use to protect it for use in the rain? I will likely finish with some Blackrocks. Would that protect it sufficiently? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It doesn't rain a lot here so I don't have much experience. I think Blackrocks waterproofs it some since it is a wax. There is also Obenaufs which is supposed to be a waterproofer.

I've recently been carrying my 1999 camel-colored, made in Costa Rica Willis bag. Got soaked a few times in Tropical Storm Andrea's downpours...and it dried quickly on its own with NO residual spots. I have NOT rehabbed this bag (yet) and I doubt the previous owner did anything to weather-ize it. Certainly when I do rehab her, I will absolutely finish with Blackrocks for extra protection. This is the authentication pic so you can see color. Good luck!
