I finally had a chance to work on some rehabs recently. Below are the after pics (with and without flash) of a Mahogany/Brass Stewardess 9525 (USA, 1995) that I got at Savers for $36 and a Black/SilverRambler's Legacy 9061 (Costa Rica, 1999) that I found at the Goodwill for $10.

I figured that they would be easy rehabs - and the Rambler was easy -but the Stewardess was harder than expected because the brass had verdigris(yuck!) I had to remove all the hardware that I could get off the bag and polish it well before replacing it, but I am happy with the results/

They look gorgeous!

Hello, experts!
I have recently bought used Crosby Coach bag. Great bag, but when i touched it my fingers were colored black. The Seller said it is Meltonian polish, a very good polish and appropriate for Coach bags. I do not know what to do - i can not ware the bag - it colors hands and cloths. Will it come off? I would keep it if it were not a big problem. The seller will accept the return though.

Thank you!

Return it, getting rid shoe polish is difficult or impossible and it will continue to wear off on your clothes!

I found a black legacy zip in a thrift store for cheap and bought it to rehab. At first it confused me - the leather was so thick and chewy, and it was so clealy a solid vintage legacy zip - but it didn't seem to have a creed. Then I looked closely and there was in FACT a creed, just very faintly impressed, super worn down on this old bag.

So - I washed this really dirty old bag and the remaining creed *disappeared*. Has anyone had a creed disappear before?

In April of 2012 Hyacinth authenticated my Coach Leatherware Town Bag from the late 80s - early 90's. The creed was faint when I started and, after rehab, nearly invisible. The leather is uncharacteristically lightweight for its age, I think. And it seems to have a harder, less squishy feel than other bags in my collection...go figure! Here's the creed, pre-rehab.

Oooooh, Aaaaah! So pretty...well done, as usual!

This is my first rehab project, I couldn't resist the bag, it's not that bad and I bathed and conditioned it, however I tried polishing the brass turnlock and I don't know what else to do is there any fix to this?

You do such a great job, katev! How many coats of conditioner/black rock did you apply to get to this finished stage?

Thanks! I used 2 light applications of conditioner and 2 light applications of black rocks. I wipe off the excess immediately, give the leather time to rest and then buff between applications.

Beautiful bag but the hardware still has some tarnish build-up and that green gunk is verdigris. You are going to have to remove the turnlock hardware and do some work to get rid of the tarnish and verdigris. I have to run out right now but try searching this thread for verdigris to find more information. Good luck, gorgeous bag!

Love your rehabs! Beautiful job on both. I'm a little jealous - I've never found a Stewardess...

I went ahead and ordered a new turnlock for eight bucks instead of buying the solvents and what not lol that's really the only drawback but I love those daggone saddle bags :) I've never owned a vintage Coach :)

I think because I live in a desert I haven't encountered verdigris, but I've used Bar Keepers Friend on hardware immediately beore the bath and have had good luck brightening it up.
