Thanks again.

Eta did a search and am currently soaking to try to remove

Do you mean verdigris? Search this thread for information.

I had that problem with a British Tan bag. I found a recipe for a vinegar and baking soda mixture that I tried and it helped a little. But I learned that washing the leather and mechanically rubbing the area helped a bit. Also, using black rocks darkened the leather and made the green stains less noticeable. I used a toothpick to dig out some of the green gunk inside a buckle hole, and used acrylic paint to touch up the inside of the buckle hole to camouflage the green color.

Good luck and see the link below:

Hi all,
I am currently getting a few bags authenticated at the moment but was wondering...
Has anyone tried using like, car leather conditioner on the bags? Like Amour all?

We have that at the house and a I tried it on a small part on the bag but I am worried it can ruin the bag? It does feel soft though...

Also, Has anyone tried shoe polish to color the bag?
This bag I assume is from early 80s? Can anyone id?

Is crazy scratched and the piping is also discolored, what can I do to clean it up?
I have not decided if this bag would be too much work for me and just to sell it.

It is a basic bag. I can't tell the age without seeing the creed. You can use almost any kind of dish soap or Woolite on it. Just make sure to rinse it really good. It will probably need some Blackrocks to make it look its best. You can also touch up the piping with acrylic paint. It really isn't that much work. When you reshape it after the bath, it will look much better even before you condition it.

I have used Mequiar's Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner Conditioner. I buy it at Target.

I need suggestions on rehabbing two Coach handbags. The first is a Devon bag and I don't know if it needs a bath. It does not smell but it looks dry. What can I do? Prescriptions are very welcomed Coach Rehab Therapists.:DThis is the first bag.

I tried asking this question on another thread, and I was advised to try my luck here. This definitely seems like the right place for me. The only time I ever get a brand new Coach (from a Coach store or online), is when it's a gift, or during a sale on coachfactory.com. I love searching out hard to find Coach bags in less than perfect condition and doing my best to restore them. I copied and pasted the question I posted elsewhere, if anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful. Thanks!

If you couldn't tell already by my username, I love Coach vachetta leather with a passion. Especially the bags Coach made for their 65th anniversary. I know they say not to do anything to the leather. Just let it do it's thing over time and let it develop a patina, and any stains or watermarks are supposed to blend in over time too. I have seen several posts on various threads talking about treating vachetta from other brands, including Coach, such as LV and D&B.

My questions is, do different brands of vachetta handbags require different treatment? Do LV and D&B recommend something different about how to care for their vachetta leather products? I ask this because I see promising posts about results achieved by conditioning vachetta with certain conditioning products. I have several Coach bags, most of them are vachetta, some in black, some in whiskey. My main goal is to protect them, and also, I have one bag in particular that's dry. Almost like the owner before me tried cleaning it and it lost some of it's natural moisture. I just want to be sure of myself before doing anything, I'm terrified of ruining my Coach bags!

Almost all bags benefit from a bath. Your first bag needs one to reshape it. A bath also helps plump up the leather and prepares it for the conditioner. The conditioner soaks in better after a bath. I would use several coats of Leather CPR and then Blackrocks on both bags.

I love that second bag especially!

I don't think different brands necessarily require different treatments. The LV forum probably has more members with experience in caring for vachetta. I have washed a Coach bag that has vachetta straps and it came out fine, but darkened around the edges. I also have a newer Coach bag with a vachetta bottom and straps. I sprayed that with Shining Monkey and it still looks new. Personally, I would rather treat it with a protective spray rather than worry about getting stains on it. You could also age your vachetta by putting it in the sun before you use a protective spray if you wanted it to darken. I think you would get the same results with conditioner that you would get with washing. It would darken on the edges but as long as you did the entire bag, the results should be good. There might be a special conditioner for vachetta that doesn't darken. I don't think you would have much of a problem with the colored bags. I think you could put conditioner on those without it affecting the color. The natural vachetta would be more tricky.

I concur with Whateve! The bath for what ever reasons evens the scratches out and you can reshape the bag as well. The Leather Therapy will condition, and the Blackrocks will probably take care of the edging in the last pic where it is lighter and worn. When the bag is slightly damp apply the Leather Therapy. I usually let it sit 24 hrs before I recoat. When the bag feels soft and supple, apply the Blackrocks, a small section at a time. I use my fingers to rub in and buff it up with an old sock. Let the Blackrocks sit 24 hrs before you do a second or third coat.

Thanks, I wasn't certain if I should bathe. Now I will spend this weekend bathing and reshaping. I'm so excited!
