Oh my goodness, apologies Coach thread. I am so hung up on this forum that I posted Versace shoes on the wrong thread. It should have been the Second hand thread...so sorry. But I do have Coach's that need rehabbing. So in the words of the Terminator,"I'll be back".

She looks great, nice job!

Does the Acrylic Gel Medium dry glossy, shiny clear or matte, dull clear. I am looking for something to stablize the cracked straw on my straw basket tote and I don't want it to show. Thanks, Kathy

Not sure if this was answered, I am just reading through all this.

You can buy it in a totally matte format. It will dry harder than the leather so the repair may crack or recede from the leather at some point, but its fairly flexible for a plastic and does well with shifts of heat and cold (I am a painter/artist - I use this stuff a lot) Very creative usage ! I would never have thought to use it as a bonding /clay to repair a gap.

It would work perfectly for stabilizing a straw bag, I have used it for a similar purpose myself. Get the liquid form (not in a tube but in a squeeze bottle) I use and recommend Liquitex Matte Varnish (Flexible Surface) - it is archival and does not yellow. You can get a small squeeze bottle in any art supply store and then paint it on as needed with a small brush. Often it is called varnish or medium - generally gel medium. Just make sure that it is matte and dries clear - I have used various brands and they have all been ok.

Aaaand, here is my latest sweetheart: a British Tan Small Plaza bag! I saw an auction for a British Tan plaza bag many months ago, but the price was astronomical. I kept hoping no one would buy it, but eventually someone did *sigh*. I bought a dark brown plaza to try to make up for it, but it was never the same. Don't get me wrong; the dark brown is nice, but what I really wanted was that British Tan bag! Every so often, I'd check ebay for another, and never saw one come up.

I was on one of my regular thrift store runs, and saw this baby hanging on the rack. I didn't realize what it was at first, because it was so flat and squashed. Once I realized what I had, I was a grinning fool. I was too excited to get "before" pictures; I immediately popped her in the bath and started working on her.

Her turnlock is loose and will need replacing, and the edgekote on the handle could use a touch up, but that's about it. I think there may be a teeny pen mark on the back somewhere. She even still had her original hang tag! I took her out today for the first time, (ahead of using my marine Rory that just arrived!), and am extremely pleased. She was $17.80 with tax.

Beautiful work!

You can get a free turnlock replacement kit from Coach customer service.

What was the cost on the original tag for the plaza bag?
