Shoe polish isn't good. A couple brands make leather dye. I've tried Fiebings. I had a lot of trouble getting it to go on even. Some people on the forum have had great success with Wood-n-stuff Leather Refinisher. http://wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html
You might end up having to do the whole bag to get it to match.
You could also try acrylic craft paint. I have mixed it with conditioner to cover small spots and corners.

I used woodnstuff on my red spectator city bag. I only did the flap and the back and I'm looking at it right now and you can't tell, it matches the rest of the bag perfectly. It's also much more flexible than the acrylic I originally experimented with on this bag.

There's pix in this thread somewhere. I'd find it but I'm on my phone right now. I think if you search red city bag it will come up. She's made quite a few appearances in this thread because I experimented a lot so look at the most recent to see the woodnstuff

Hmm. Where can one buy woodnstuff other than at http://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html ? This site looks pretty sketchy. I didn't see it on Amazon :(

Thanks guys!

So Mesa is the same as Tucson, no vintage Coach bags to be found, I was planning to visit my son in Phoenix, to check out the thrift shops for some bags lol, sounds like we're gonna have to go back to the East Coast for some good deals. I'm actually going to N.Y. for the first time in 14 yrs, in a couple of months. I'm so excited to see my family and I'm definitely going to make time to see some the thrift shops in the Bronx, where I'll be staying.

How sad! I guess I won't waste too much time looking for thrift stores while I'm in AZ.

Hey latetotheparty. I will be also be in the Bronx and Long Island in June. You will probably have already bought all the Vintage Coach before I get there. LOL :D:D

Whateve, please visit the thrift stores in AZ. It's all about timing. You never know when you might get lucky!! I have my husband looking out for me too but I am sure he just tells me that they have nothing because he is too busy looking at toys! LOL He collects Star Wars nostalgia. :graucho::graucho:

I probably will. It depends on how well my father is when I'm there. I will also be visiting Las Vegas on the way and I have found Coach there.

So, I am finally checking back in! I quit the Coach collecting hobby for a long time because my soon to be ex husband was unsupportive, and got angry at me for spending so much time here. With him gone I am free to pursue this again! I missed all of you!!!

I thought I'd give an in-process update on my vintage Mini Safari Tote. I am finally getting my act together, and making progress with my to-do pile.

Here is what she looked like when I got her. She's in really good shape, considering she's from 1968! I feel like this bag wasn't used very much. There isn't a lot of scratching on her feet.

On closure inspection, I have found a pen mark on one of the outside pockets, about 1.5" long. I am going to try to blend it in when I condition the bag, rather than try anything crazy to cover it or remove it. After 45 years, I am relieved she only has 1 pen mark!

I decided to soak her, because she was a little squashed. I was a little nervous about it, because the bottom of the bag is rigid and is made out of some sort of fiber board. After it got wet, it did feel softer, but I'm hoping that as long as I don't mess with it and just let it dry, it will be ok. It's not like this bag is going to be carrying any major weight; it just needs to retain it's shape.

The brass was dull, and solid green on the back when I took it off. It's going to take several attempts to get it all polished, because it was so gross.

The cool thing about old Coach leather? It holds water! I filled the bag and pockets and it didn't leak *at all*.

She's drying right now. I'm hoping she will be dry enough tomorrow to start conditioning!

Oh my gosh!!! I love this bag!!!!

This is one of my latest rehab jobs. I think it came out pretty well! I did soak it briefly to reshape it a little. I didn't want to get crazy with it, though, because this style of handle often has some sort of fiberous inner that softens when wet, (learned that the hard way once). This bag has sat in my to-do pile since before Christmas.

Gorgeous bag!!!!

I live in Chandler!! Savers has had a few Coach bags from time to time... I haven't found any anywhere else around here though!
Savers seems to be the best. They actually pay for their items which is why I think they get Coach. If Goodwill gets Coach, they usually pull those out to sell it on ebay. But a lot of times Savers will overprice Coach. I got one for $5 in Las Vegas once. I think it was cheap only because it reeked of smoke. I also found two vintage wallets for $1 each.
