Funny store to share - I haven't been checking the Forum much due to the demise of the TPF app over the last few weeks (the main way I read the posts). I bought a small Legacy/Studio Flap (style 9145) on eBay last week. The seller said it did not have any strong odors but it came from an estate sale so she didn't know for sure what it had been exposed to.

I think it has a little bit of smoke smell but the leather smell balances it out - kind of hard to tell if it's really smoke or just storage mustiness. It was in excellent shape so I just used Lexol cleaner (very easy to use, gel-like in consistency) followed by a damp rag and then Lexol conditioner. As the Lexol conditioners evaporates, it seems to be drawing some of the possible smoke smell with it. The bag is now airing out in the sun (indoors). My kid saw me and she tried to smell the leather strap - oddly enough, she said it smells "delicious!" I hope any significant chemical residues are gone now....

This is the same kid who made me eat my lunch in another room because she didn't like the smell of the broccoli.

My red Metropolis smelled intensely like cigarettes when I got it. I put an open tupperware container of baking soda in it and zipped it closed for a couple of days, the smell completely disappeared :) if any of the smoke smell remains, try it!

wow hoo! Coach Italian-lovers rule!
:king:........will post some pics soon...no rehab yet...actually the Butter Royalton is too die for...gorgeous and pristine...absolutely, nothing needs to be done to it. The Beechnut Roylaton is in great shape but not perfect...the red Gracie nneds some work...when ready, I will reread your posts and others and go from there..

Thanks for the morning giggle du jour! Although I have nothing against broccoli, I'm with your daughter...leather does smell delicious! Be careful, she may be the next generation of rehabber in the making. lol!

Thanks for this tip! Sounds easy and natural - I have a fresh little box of baking soda with the bag and strap right now in a sealed bag. Funny, it's mostly the strap that has the mild possible smoke odor, not the bag. Not sure how that happened.

I know other tips in this forum have included the little silica gel packets that come with shoes. I don't remember how to heat activate them but I'm going to collect some over time and keep those around as well.

Back to share my "review of Leather Master Ink Lifter. This is a camel colored Legacy zip that is my experiment bag.

Added ink (kind of made me cringe!):

In process, the product is quite oily:

Wiped down with a wet cloth and Lexol:

All dry-you can see a faint line still:

I let the ink sit for an hour before I went to work on it. While it didn't work perfectly, it also didn't remove any of the leather dye/color. I am not sure about using it on new Coach, but it would be worth keeping around for accidentally getting ink on glove-tanned leather.

I wonder if it would work as good on old ink stains. Does it say you can use it on suede? I have a bag that looks like a pen exploded inside. Nothing has worked so far.

Awesome... more encouraging than anything I've seen on leather, namely that most things remove the leather DYE with the ink so, I will be grabbing some of this.

While we're on the topic, is getting ink stains out of white leather pretty much never going to happen? I can usually get ink stains out of the linings but everything I have tried on the outside hasn't worked. I recently got my mom a beautiful white older coach purse. Well, she decided she didn't want it any more and gave it back to me (I was kinda sad) What made me more sad was the pen ink all over it. And I do mean all over, inside and out. I'll try to post pics later but does anyone have tricks for getting ink out of white leather?
