Did you figure out what that goop on the inside was? You can definitely be more aggressive with the lining. On the exterior, I don't know if more scrubbing is going to help. You already have so much color loss. If it were mine, I wouldn't be happy unless I could refresh the color.
the lining looks goopy but it's not sticky at all, just stained (these are beofre pics so the lining now looks a little better) - no clue what the substance that stained it was ....ya think conditioning it would deepen the color to and cover up the stain on the leather...it;s a nice bag in great shape....don't really care about the lining as much because I know it's clean.....on the other hand, I don't want to waste time and products for a lost cause..

I don't think conditioning would cover up the stain. It might make it a little less noticeable. You could just do one small area to see if it makes a difference before you use a lot of product. I think I would mix a little paint in with the conditioner.

oh. great idea....I know people have said acrylic craft paints for touch ups but are you talking about using paint/conditioner mixture for the whole bag? If so, what do you recommend? The woodnstuff brand?

Thanks so much...i'm initmidated by painting (still have the deglazer and stain I bought for the white city bag sitting in the box it came in. :sweatdrop:)

When I just want to add a tiny bit of color, I just use the acrylic craft paints. If I wanted to make a huge change, I would probably used the woodnstuff. I think someone said that if you try to use the craft paint full strength on large parts of bags, it gets stiff. If you don't like the way it comes out, you can clean it off but after awhile it becomes permanent.

I checked out WoodnStuff before - will do again and see if I can find a similar blue..what conditioner do you think I should mix it with? apple? or Leather Cpr? Thanks so much, Whateve!

My red Coach Daypack arrived today! I gave her a quick wipe down with a soft cloth with warm water and baby soap and then stuffed the bag with a towel while drying. I"m unsure if I should give her a bath or not. I"m also wondering what conditioner I should use, and if she has to be bathed before I use a conditioner or if I can condition now and bathe later? She does have a slight perfume smell. Here is the eBay link with plenty of photos. Please let me know what you think.

I have yet to buy the Wood n stuff. After you wash the bag do you condition, or use the wood n stuff first?

A cobbler once told me NOT to condition before dying a bag, but some rehabbers like to mix conditioner in with the dye before applying it because they feel it is better absorbed by the leather.

It is sort of a waste to condition and then bathe, because the conditioner will be washed off in the bath. You don't have to get her a bath at all but if you do, you should do it before conditioning. It should help get rid of the smell. Don't be afraid to give it a bath if you think it needs it. There are several conditioners that are listed in this thread. They serve different purposes and generally the worse off the bag, the thicker the conditioner used.

Hi all! I just rehabbed my vintage coach purse, and it looks great! My only concern is that the label on the inside has worn out a lot after the process. I'm going to post some before and after photos.

Do you think this means the bag isn't authentic?

Thank you for the reply katev! Puffy is just the right word to describe it. I did use warm water, woolite, and let it soak for at least an hour. It will be interesting to see how it settles in, and I hope it shrinks back. I'm new to vintage leather and didn't realize how much it can change! Thank you again!
