I just got this Berkeley saddle bag. The smooth leather on the front is bumpy with age. I don't know exactly how to describe it but you can see it in the picture. Normally I avoid bags that have this problem. Does anyone have any ideas how to smooth it out? I was thinking about sanding it smooth and then using Leather Refinisher on it. Do you think this would work?

Sorry- I can't provide any input on how to smooth the leather, but I just wanted to say this is a gorgeous bag!!! Congrats!!! That color and style is just beautiful!

It's supposed to be Pebbled Leather just like a Sonoma. If the leather has actually somehow "lifted" I don't think there's much you can do with it. If you try to smooth it down you'll damage the leather.

If you don't like it, contact the seller and tell her the leather seems damaged and you want to return it. Once you start messing around with it, you own it.

Thanks. It is a lot more "pebbled" than a Sonoma. I don't want to return it. I love it. I just want to make it look as close as I can to what it looked like when it was new. I'm going to wash it and condition it and leave it at that.

It has been so long since I've had a chance to work on rehabbing any of the bags in my pile that are waiting for my attention. I think early early October was the last time that I worked on any projects. I have been so busy with vacation, thanksgiving, work, and work travel and christmas - but today I finally grabbed a few items for and started working on them. It feels so good!

Here are pics of my current rehab projects:
- My stinky navy willis 9927 - still trying to eliminate the cigarette smoke smell!
- My greeen laurel 4112 - she also smells of cigarettes but she has been sealed up with charcoal filters for a couple of months so I hope that I can eliminate the smell!
- A moldy, mildewed and beat-up burgandy spectator legacy checkbook wallet
- red legacy west back pack that was in good condition, unlike the rest of these specimens!

I love seeing a pile of bags drying!! I have five drying now too! -a sense of accomplishment

My latest rescue from Goodwill for 99 cents. Saw it laying on the floor under the purse display. It just needed a good cleaning and conditioninig.

Introducing the 2003 Mini Hippie ( more pictures in the Auth. thread)

I have two of these in camel and black. Great for a small person who doesn't want to be dragged down by a bag. Also lovely quality leather. I paid around $20 for one and $11 for the other on Ebay and both were in pristine condition. I use the Coach leather conditioner on all my Coach bags.

Looks great. Is this an Italian bag? Is it lined? How did you get rid of those scratches?

Yes Italian bag, bought it for 18 dollars and it is lined in the pockets with the Coach black on black stripe material and the main section of the bag is in a very soft velvety-suede lining. The marks were taken out by using leather dye to cover the bag and then when dry used Blackrock conditioner. I just love how it came out. Could probably be used as a briefcase/laptop bag.:D

Wow. What a great bag! I'd love to find one with the suede lining. You got a great deal and you did a fantastic job. Did you use Fiebings leather dye?
