I will be posting my first rehab soon - I just need to put a few more coats of conditioner for some of the edging wear, but I wanted to comment that I started with a bag that needed a lot more work than the lula's legacy I purchased first. It is a 9085 british tan duffle sac and I bought it on a whim after getting caught up in the auction and when it arrived it was in worse shape that I expected with some random dark spots that I'm still not sure what they were and a lot of pen marks - I have no clue how pen marks get on the outside of a bag! I had seen AggieK's suggestion about an eraser, but I didn't have one on hand, so I googled how to remove ink from leather (I know it was risky!) and found the magic eraser and antibacterial gel. I tried the magic eraser on the inside flap and good thing because it really took the color off the bag! But suprisingly, the antibacterial gel worked to lighten the pen and removed all but one dark, thick pen mark. I just used a q-tip to keep it concentrated and although it's not completely removed, it did lighten it to the point I think I would be the only one to notice. It did remove the shine somewhat though, so beware if you try this to test it on somewhere not noticable first, but now that I bathed it and conditioned it once, I can't tell where the shine-loss spots are. The antibacterial also completely removed the black round spots that I didn't know what the heck they were - who knows, they might have come off anyway during the bath, but I was really happy to see them go because they were pretty noticable front and center on the bag. Anyway, thank you to everyone who replied to my comments and questions and provided great advice and hopefully you will like how the bag looks! Sorry for the lack of pictures, but they will be coming soon!

I can't wait to see it!

Random comment: I am still amazed that you can dunk/bath the Coach vintage leather- never would have thought of it until I found this forum. I'm on my 3rd rehab and so amazed at what just the bath does to these vintage beauties! Sorry I have not posted pics of other rehabs- I can't even get my kids pics off my camera! ;)

So thanks to all for such great info!

Ah ok it must be due to a lot of sellers on ebay taking sloppy measurements then because some of them list duffle sacs as being the same size as Helen's Legacys.

Look at the style numbers on the bags to determine what they really are. I think I saw a listing recently where the seller called it a Helen's Legacy and it was really a duffle sac.

Wow!! Great picture!!! That Maggie is so cute! I'm not usually a small bag person but I might have to try that one! And is that a gold hangtag on the duffle sac?

Yes, the Duffle Sac was missing her original hangtag so I put a brass one on. I actually really like it, as it is such a big bag, it needed more metal :D I love Maggie, a great small bag for when you need your hands free.

I must be crazy, because I actually spent money on this filthy, dirty, sticky (!!!), did I mention filthy? bag. I got it from a Salvation Army that I almost never shop, (because everything there is filthy, dirty, gross). It was $5, and the only reason I was willing to try with this bag is because I figured the heavy metal hangtag was worth $5, and I can always resell the strap on ebay. The strap is at least in decent shape!

The rest of this bag, is omg gross. The previously white leather is grey. Pen marks galore. The inside is awful. In the plus column, there isn't any significant damage to the leather, save the staple holes from where SA stapled their price tag (seriously, SA???). There are a few tiny spots of color loss on the green, and one small scuffy area on the black patent piping that I will cover with clear nail polish. At least the bag doesn't smell. I am going to order the leather restorer product in white. The camera flash makes this bag look better than it really is.

I can't figure out why someone would treat this bag so poorly. This was once a very expensive bag!

What a pretty bag! Doesn't it make you sick when people treat their nice purses like garbage cans? I hope you do wonders with it.

OHWOW. cool bag tho'! Yeah a total awful shame it looks like that! I can't wait to see if she cleans up for you !

Okay, here is the British tan duffle sac I've been posting about - my first rehab! I don't have great before pics mainly just to show the issues, but hopefully you guys are able to tell the difference! I'm happy with the results because I was really worried about all the marks and now I can't wait to wear it! Thanks to everyone who posted great advice and those who enabled me by posting their own duffle pics!!

The first two pictures are before and after of the creed flap. It still needs some work, but alot of the marks were removed or at least lightened. The next four pictures are before showing the marks and the last two are after, one without flash one with flash. Thanks for looking!

Use your own judgement but I'd give that one a gently padded trip through the washer. I think it would do wonders.
